New configuration to improve the power input/output quality of a superconducting energy storage/convertor

Wenxin Li et al.

Summary: We have proposed a new type of superconducting energy storage/convertor and conducted several investigations on it. The results show that this device has significant advantages in mechanical-electromagnetic-mechanical energy conversion. A new configuration consisting of two permanent magnets and two superconducting coils is proposed to improve power distribution and increase energy storage capacity. Theoretical analysis, numerical derivation, and prototype experiments demonstrate the feasibility and optimal performance of this configuration in mechanical energy recovery and reuse.

Origin of the anomalous electromechanical interaction between a moving magnetic dipole and a closed superconducting loop

Hongye Zhang et al.

Summary: Lenz's law states that the current induced in a circuit opposes the change in magnetic field. However, recent experiments have shown that the interaction between a moving permanent magnet and a closed superconducting loop can violate Lenz's law, as the induced current in the loop stays in the same direction throughout the process. This anomalous phenomenon may have potential applications in superconducting magnetic energy storage, electromagnetic ejection, and flux pumps. The cause of this phenomenon is still controversial.

Application potential of a new kind of superconducting energy storage/convertor

Wenxin Li et al.

Summary: Our study demonstrated that a permanent magnet and a closed superconductor coil can be used to construct an energy storage/convertor, converting mechanical energy to electromagnetic energy and achieving practical mechanical force and energy storage capacity with enlarged pair of magnet and superconductor coil. This device shows potential as a short-term energy storage, particularly in replacing fly-wheels for mechanical -> electromagnetic -> mechanical conversion.

Experimental Study of Electromagnetic Interaction Between a Permanent Magnet and an HTS Coil

Wenxin Li et al.

Summary: The interaction behavior between superconductor coils and magnet or magnetic field differs fundamentally from that between conventional conductor and magnet. The theory of this electromagnetic interaction remains to be fully developed. This study conducted experiments to investigate the characteristics of interactions between HTS coils and permanent magnets, which can provide valuable insights into the electromagnetic interaction between superconductor and magnetic field, particularly type II superconductors.
