Unusual 'Turn-on' Ratiometric Response of Fluorescent Porphyrin-Pyrene Dyads to the Nitroaromatic Compounds

Irina I. Shepeleva et al.

Summary: Detection of nitroaromatic compounds (NAC) is important due to their hazardous nature. A new pyrene-imidazoporphyrin dyad is reported to exhibit an unusual 'turn-on' response to NAC with the appearance of a new band attributed to exciplex emission. The dyad's porphyrin backbone allows for ratiometric detection using its own fluorescence as an internal reference signal. Association constants of the dyad are reported to be in the order of 10(4) M-1.

Preparation of porous organic polymer nanoparticles in miniemulsion for 2,4,6-trinitrophenol sensing

Qihao Cui et al.

Summary: In this study, two novel porous organic polymer nanoparticles PTATE2 and PTATE4 were successfully prepared and found to possess high sensitivity and selectivity for the detection of TNP in nitroaromatic explosives. Recovery tests demonstrated high recovery rates of TNP using the fluorescence sensing method based on PTATE2 and PTATE4 in actual water samples, with no significant difference compared to HPLC analysis. The study also revealed the dominant role of the inner filter effect in the sensing mechanism.

Luminescent Two-Dimensional Metal-Organic Framework Nanosheets with Large π-Conjugated System: Design, Synthesis, and Detection of Anti-Inflammatory Drugs and Pesticides

Cai-Xia Yu et al.

Summary: A luminescent 2D MOF nanosheet was successfully developed and applied for the determination of diclofenac sodium (DCF) and tetramethylthiuram disulfide (TMTD) with high selectivity and sensitivity. The 2D Zn-MOF nanosheets exhibited lower detection limits for DCF and TMTD compared to the 3D Zn-MOF, due to the largely exposed surface area with rigid planar structure and ultralarge pi-conjugated system that greatly accelerated electron transfer. The remarkable quenching performance for DCF and TMTD was attributed to a combined effect of photoinduced electron transfer and competitive energy absorption, as revealed by systematic investigations.
