Leveraging high-throughput hyperspectral imaging technology to detect cadmium stress in two leafy green crops and accelerate soil remediation efforts

Maria Zea et al.

Summary: This study utilized hyperspectral imaging technology to detect cadmium stress in different leafy green crops, finding basil to exhibit more pronounced symptoms. The use of locally sourced hardwood biochar reduced cadmium stress and uptake in these plants, with the anthocyanin reflectance index being the most effective vegetation index in quantifying changes in plant stress responses.

Dynamics and genetic regulation of leaf nutrient concentration in barley based on hyperspectral imaging and machine learning

Michele Grieco et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated the potential of high-throughput hyperspectral imaging to accurately predict leaf concentration of 15 mineral nutrients in barley. Specific patterns of variation in leaf nutrient concentration between developmental stages were observed, and quantitative trait loci associated with the simultaneous expression of leaf nutrients were detected, suggesting potential co-regulation in barley. The findings provide a new approach for nutrient assessment in large-scale field experiments to support plant biofortification through gene and genotype selection.

Detection of heavy metal lead in lettuce leaves based on fluorescence hyperspectral technology combined with deep learning algorithm

Xin Zhou et al.

Summary: This study examined the feasibility of using fluorescence hyperspectral imaging technology for lead content detection in lettuce leaves, and proposed a new data processing method (WT-MC-SAE) that effectively achieved dimensionality reduction and depth feature extraction of fluorescence spectral data. Pre-processing and modeling analysis of the fluorescence spectral data showed that the 4th Der fluorescence spectrum data was most effective in lead content detection.

Detection for lead pollution level of lettuce leaves based on deep belief network combined with hyperspectral image technology

Jun Sun et al.

Summary: A novel method utilizing hyperspectral imaging technology coupled with DBN discriminant model was proposed to identify lead pollution levels of lettuce leaves. Conventional models and DBN were compared, with DBN achieving the highest accuracy. t-SNE was used to visualize feature values, indicating the feasibility of detecting lead pollution levels in lettuce leaves.

Hyperspectral imaging and improved feature variable selection for automated determination of deoxynivalenol in various genetic lines of barley kernels for resistance screening

Wen-Hao Su et al.

Summary: Fusarium head blight (FHB) caused by Fusarium graminearum leads to reduced yields and decreased grain value due to the presence of deoxynivalenol (DON). This study explored the feasibility of using hyperspectral imaging for rapid and non-destructive assay of DON in barley kernels, demonstrating potential for accelerating non-destructive DON assays of barley samples.

Target chromosome-segment substitution: A way to breeding by design in rice

Guiquan Zhang

Summary: Progress in plant breeding relies on genetic resources, genetic knowledge, and breeding techniques. Breeding by design aims to control all allelic variation for genes of agronomic importance by utilizing naturally occurring variation. By applying a three-step strategy, including constructing a SSSL library, identifying desirable genes, and designing new rice lines with target gene pyramiding, successful achievements have been made in rice breeding using the HJX74-SSSL platform.
