Structural, spectroscopic, and in silico studies of 3-(dimethylamino)-1-(thiophen-2-yl)propan-1-ol: A potential antidepressant agent

Nuthalapati Poojith et al.

Summary: The study presents the structural, spectroscopic, reactivity, and antidepressant activity of the compound DMATP. The compound's structure was analyzed through single crystal X-ray diffraction, vibrational spectroscopy, and thermal analysis, with a detailed investigation of intermolecular interactions and geometry optimization. In addition, an antidepressant study was conducted to understand the compound's potential binding mechanism with human serotonin carriers.

Temperature, pH and additives effects on the binding of Caffeic acid phenethyl ester to the native state of bovine serum albumin

Xiao Nai et al.

Summary: The interaction between caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE) and bovine serum albumin (BSA) was investigated using multiple techniques. Results showed that CAPE caused static quenching of BSA's intrinsic fluorescence, and the binding process was mainly driven by hydrogen bonding and van der Waals forces. CD spectroscopy revealed that the secondary structure of BSA changed upon the addition of CAPE.

Identification of a novel off-target of paroxetine: Possible role in sexual dysfunction induced by this SSRI antidepressant drug

Silvia Giatti et al.

Summary: Paroxetine, a widely used antidepressant, has been found to inhibit an enzyme called phenylethanolamine N-methyltransferase (PNMT), involved in the production of epinephrine. Altered levels of epinephrine have been associated with sexual dysfunction, which is a common side effect of antidepressant use. This study suggests a possible role of PNMT in the sexual dysfunction reported by antidepressant users.

Structural aspects of formetanate hydrochloride binding with human serum albumin using spectroscopic and molecular modeling techniques

Shweta Singh et al.

Summary: This study investigated the binding characteristics of Formetanate Hydrochloride (FMT) with Human serum albumin (HSA) using experimental and computational methods. The results showed that the binding of FMT to HSA is spontaneous and entropy driven. FMT binds to specific domains and subdomains of HSA and is stabilized by hydrophobic interactions. Additionally, molecular dynamics simulations revealed minor adjustments in FMT's conformation within the binding site, and computational results were consistent with experimental findings.

Thermodynamic Studies of Interactions between Sertraline Hydrochloride and Randomly Methylated β-Cyclodextrin Molecules Supported by Circular Dichroism Spectroscopy and Molecular Docking Results

Sylwia Belica-Pacha et al.

Summary: The study investigated the interaction between sertraline hydrochloride and randomly methylated beta-cyclodextrin molecules using Isothermal Titration Calorimetry at specific conditions. The thermodynamic functions such as enthalpy, entropy, and Gibbs free energy of binding were calculated, along with the stoichiometry coefficient and binding constant. The obtained results were compared with literature data, and circular dichroism spectroscopy and computational studies were used to further characterize the interaction.

Evidence for Dual Site Binding of Nile Blue A toward DNA: Spectroscopic, Thermodynamic, and Molecular Modeling Studies

Mukti Mohammad et al.

Summary: The study found that Nile Blue binds to the DNA helix by two types of modes simultaneously, with binding driven by negative enthalpy and positive entropy changes. At low concentrations, Nile Blue binds to a DNA minor groove, while it switches to intercalation mode at higher concentrations. The thermodynamic study showed that the overall binding free energy is a combination of several negative and positive free energy changes.

Signaling pathways governing breast cancer stem cells behavior

Kai Song et al.

Summary: Breast cancer stem cells play a critical role in the metastasis and aggressiveness of breast cancer, making them a suitable target for treatment. Signaling pathways such as Wnt, NF kappa B, and miRNAs are key players in regulating BCSC self-renewal and metastasis. Targeting these pathways may offer a novel therapeutic approach for breast cancer diagnosis and therapy.
