Biochemical Investigation of Inhibitory Activities of Plant-Derived Bioactive Compounds Against Carbohydrate and Glucagon-Like Peptide-I Metabolizing Enzymes

Muhammad Fiaz Khalid et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate the inhibitory activities of resveratrol and taxifolin against alpha-amylase, alpha-glucosidase, and DPP-IV enzymes using in vitro and in silico analyses. Resveratrol and taxifolin showed weaker effects on alpha-amylase but significant effects on alpha-glucosidase and DPP-IV enzymes. Molecular docking analysis demonstrated the binding capabilities of resveratrol and taxifolin with these enzymes. The results suggest that resveratrol and taxifolin have the potential to prevent carbohydrate metabolism through the inhibition of alpha-amylase and alpha-glucosidase, and also prolong the metabolic function of incretin by inhibiting DPP-IV enzymatic activity.

Two Medicinal Plants (Alkanna trichophila and Convolvulus galaticus) from Turkey: Chemical Characterization and Biological Perspectives

Mohamad Fawzi Mahomoodally et al.

Summary: The study aimed to validate the phytochemical composition and bioactivity of Alkanna trichophylla and Convolvulus galaticus extracts, finding that homogenizer-assisted extraction was the most efficient technique with high compound yield and promising bioactivities. Types of solvents influenced compound recovery and biological activities, laying the groundwork for further research challenges in cytotoxicity evaluation and molecular docking analysis.
