Modification of hexachiral unit cell to enhance auxetic stent performance

Amir Asadi et al.

Summary: In this study, three stents with negative Poisson's ratio were designed by improving the unit cell structure, and numerical and experimental investigations were conducted using different materials. The modified auxetic stents showed better auxeticity and Poisson's ratio, and had higher radial expansion, stress tolerance and yield strain, which helped to overcome the drawbacks of non-auxetic stents.

The contemporary role of protamine in the cardiac catheterization laboratory

Barbara A. Danek et al.

Summary: Access to the arterial circulation and full anticoagulation during percutaneous coronary intervention has the risk of serious bleeding, which mainly comes from the arterial access site and coronary artery perforation. Effective management of hemorrhagic complications is crucial in the interventional procedure. Protamine sulfate, a well-known heparin reversal agent, is commonly used but with potential risks of hypersensitivity reactions. This review aims to summarize the existing evidence and experience of using protamine sulfate in percutaneous coronary and structural interventional procedures.

Stent as a Novel Technology for Coronary Artery Disease and Their Clinical Manifestation

Muneeb Ullah et al.

Summary: Coronary artery disease (CAD) is a cardiovascular disease characterized by narrowed and hardened blood vessels, resulting in insufficient blood supply to the heart. The prevalence of CAD is increasing globally, causing higher mortality and morbidity rates and negatively impacting quality of life. It is also a significant burden on healthcare systems. Risk factors such as high cholesterol, smoking, diabetes, obesity, and hypertension contribute to the development of CAD. Diagnosis and management involve medication and stent technology, which has proven to be beneficial but also comes with potential complications.

Novel hybrid 3D-printed auxetic vascular stent based on re-entrant and meta-trichiral unit cells: Finite element simulation with experimental verifications

M. Abbaslou et al.

Summary: A novel re-entrant meta-trichiral auxetic vascular stent with improved mechanical properties was designed by combining three auxetic unit cells. Finite element analysis and experimental tests were conducted to investigate its in-plane tensile behavior. The effect of various geometric parameters on its in-plane behavior was studied, and the highest negative Poisson's ratio obtained was -4.91. The stent's behavior during angioplasty and its bending flexibility were evaluated using finite element analysis and experimental tests.

Comparative Characterization of Hot-Pressed Polyamide 11 and 12: Mechanical, Thermal and Durability Properties

Mohsen Bahrami et al.

Summary: Polyamide 11 (PA11) and polyamide 12 (PA12) have similar backbones but differ in origin, with PA11 being a bioplastic compared to oil-based PA12. This study characterizes and compares their properties, showing PA12's higher crystallinity leads to better mechanical and durability properties. Experimental results demonstrate the differences in ductility and water absorption between the two polyamides.

Topological Optimization of Auxetic Coronary Stents Considering Hemodynamics

Huipeng Xue et al.

Summary: This paper designs a new type of auxetic metamaterial-inspired structural architectures to innovate coronary stents under hemodynamics, aiming to reduce the occurrence of stent thrombosis and in-stent restenosis. A multiscale level-set approach with numerical homogenization method and computational fluid dynamics is applied, proposing a homogenized effective modified fluid permeability to efficiently connect design variables with blood flow motions around the stent.
