The First Cu(I)-Peptoid Complex: Enabling Metal Ion Stability and Selectivity via Backbone Helicity

Anastasia E. Behar et al.

Summary: Stabilization of Cu(I) is commonly observed in native copper proteins. Peptoids, a class of peptodomimetics, have the ability to bind and stabilize metal ions in their high oxidation state. However, they have not been utilized for Cu(I) binding until now.

Efficient Intermolecular Charge Transport in π-Stacked Pyridinium Dimers Using Cucurbit[8]uril Supramolecular Complexes

Hao Yu et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the highly efficient intermolecular charge transport of pyridinium molecules through the dimerization process inside the cavity of a synthetic host. Molecular modeling using density functional theory reveals that the dimerization process results in planarization of the pyridinium molecules and large intermolecular LUMO-LUMO couplings, leading to enhanced intermolecular charge transport.

Electrocatalytic CO2 Reduction: from Discrete Molecular Catalysts to Their Integrated Catalytic Materials

Kai Lei et al.

Summary: This minireview explores the application of molecular catalysts (metal complexes) in electrocatalytic CO2 reduction. Molecular catalysts have molecularly defined active sites and precise structural tailorability, but suffer from poor stability and low catalytic current density. Heterogenizing discrete molecular catalysts can overcome these issues and combine the advantages of heterogeneous and homogeneous catalysis.

Enhancing a Molecular Electrocatalyst's Activity for CO2 Reduction by Simultaneously Modulating Three Substituent Effects

Weixuan Nie et al.

Summary: The electrocatalytic activity for CO2 reduction is greatly enhanced by integrating three synergistic substituent effects into cobalt complexes with pyridyldiimine-based ligands. This study presents a promising catalyst design strategy for enhancing catalytic ability by tuning three synergistic substituent effects simultaneously in a single catalyst structure.

Activating the Fe(I) State of Iron Porphyrinoid with Second-Sphere Proton Transfer Residues for Selective Reduction of CO2 to HCOOH via Fe(III/II)-COOH Intermediate(s)

Sk Amanullah et al.

Summary: The ability to tune the selectivity of CO2 reduction by first-row transition metal-based complexes through second-sphere effects has promising implications. By understanding the mechanism of CO2 reduction by iron porphyrins and designing a porphyrinoid ligand, it was possible to catalyze the reduction of CO2 to HCOOH with high yield and low overpotential. The key role of a closely placed proton transfer residue in aiding CO2 binding to Fe(I) and stabilizing intermediates was elucidated through the reaction mechanism.
