A simple descriptor for the nitrogen reduction reaction over single atom catalysts

Zhanzhao Fu et al.

Summary: The performance of supported catalysts is influenced by metal-support interactions, and quantifying the structure-activity relationship remains a challenge. This work constructs a simple descriptor to describe the effect of metal-support interaction on the nitrogen reduction reaction (NRR) activity. The descriptor accurately predicts the limiting potential (U-L) for the NRR without density functional theory calculations. The study also demonstrates the applicability of the descriptor to other materials and successfully selects promising NRR catalysts.

Fundamental, application and opportunities of single atom catalysts for Li-S batteries

Ting Zhou et al.

Summary: Li-S batteries have the advantages of high energy density and low cost, making them promising energy storage devices for future electric vehicles. However, their practical application is limited by the slow conversion reactions of LiPSs and the shuttle effect. Single atom catalysts (SACs) are being explored as efficient catalysts to promote LiPSs conversion reactions and increase the utilization of active material. This review comprehensively summarizes the mechanisms, structures, and practical applications of SACs in Li-S batteries, aiming to inspire novel ideas for designing high-performance SACs and better understand their mechanism.

Building Up an Elemental Property-Adsorption Energy Descriptor-Decomposition Barrier Three-Tier Model for Screening Biatom Catalysts in Sodium-Sulfur Batteries

Ke Fan et al.

Summary: This study develops a three-tier model to accelerate the search for efficient G-BACs catalysts and elucidates the origin of their catalytic activity. It is found that E-b during the charging process of G-BACs in Na-S batteries is linearly correlated with E-diff, the difference in adsorption energy between the initial and final states of Na2S decomposition. Machine learning approaches correlate E-diff with intrinsic properties of metal elements and reveal that the most significant elemental feature is the outer electron number. This study not only accelerates the design of efficient G-BACs based on the structure-activity relationship, but also provides a feasible strategy for the fast screening of catalysts for other electrochemical reactions.
