In Situ Porousized MoS2 Nano Islands Enhance HER/OER Bifunctional Electrocatalysis

The formation of a new Co-C bond at the interface of Co4N@NC expedites the electron transfer and optimizes the adsorption/desorption energies. Co4N@NC showed excellent electrocatalytic water splitting activity at all pH values.

In Situ Defect Engineering Route to Optimize the Cationic Redox Activity of Layered Double Hydroxide Nanosheet via Strong Electronic Coupling with Holey Substrate

In this review, the authors provide a comprehensive overview of recent advances in intercalation exfoliation of 2D TMD materials, focusing on the interactions between the host, guest, and solvent. The effect of intercalation chemistry on the synthesis and modification of TMD nanosheets is discussed, considering lattice strain, interlayer distance, and carrier density. The review concludes with a prospectus on future research opportunities in the intercalation chemistry of 2D materials.

Cation Defect Engineering of Transition Metal Electrocatalysts for Oxygen Evolution Reaction

Peeling off the surface: Pt-decoration of WSe2 nanoflakes results in exceptional photoelectrochemical HER activity

Summary: In this study, the photoelectrochemical hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) was investigated on exfoliated, pristine, and Pt-decorated tungsten diselenide (WSe2) nanoflakes. The Pt-decorated WSe2 photocathodes showed exceptionally high photocurrent density and internal photo-to-electron conversion efficiency. By fine-tuning the Pt nanoparticle loading and WSe2 nanoflake thickness, the PEC activity for HER could be adjusted. Surface recombination kinetics and charge transfer of the specimens were similar, indicating significant differences in their bulk properties. The ALD process temperature and evolving Pt nanoparticle phase contributed to the improved PEC performance by passivating the sub-surface defects in the WSe2 nanoflakes.
