Oxygen vacancies-enriched Ta-doped Bi2WO6 with Pt as cocatalyst for boosting the dehydrogenation of benzyl alcohol in water

Zewen Shen et al.

Summary: Selective photocatalytic oxidation of alcohols into aldehydes or ketones is achieved efficiently and with high selectivity using Ta-doped Bi2WO6 catalyst loaded with Pt nanoparticles under visible-light irradiation. The presence of surface oxygen vacancies promotes the dissociative adsorption of alcohols and prolongs the lifetime of charge carriers, leading to enhanced photocatalytic oxidation performance. Isotopic labeling experiments reveal that the H-2 product is generated from water reduction on Pt-loaded pristine undoped Bi2WO6, while it originates from alcohol dehydrogenation on Pt-loaded Ta-doped Bi2WO6, demonstrating a complete dehydrogenation pathway for alcohol oxidation.
