Mouna Medimagh et al.

Summary: In this study, the influence of green solvents (water and DMSO) on the structural parameters, frontier molecular orbitals (FMOs), and molecular electrostatic potential surface analysis (MEPS) of the 1-ethylpiperazine-1,4-diium bis(hydrogenoxalate) (1EPBH) compound was investigated using density functional theory (DFT) method. Experimental techniques such as X-ray diffraction, infrared (IR) spectroscopy, and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy were used to examine the compound. Theoretical calculations were performed using the B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p) basis set and the ADMP dynamic approach. Various methods, including AIM, ELF, LOL, were employed to determine the noncovalent interactions and the strengths of hydrogen bonds in the 1EPBH compound. The results showed that the investigated compound can serve as an important epilepsy and cancer inhibitor.

Diffusivities and solubilities of carbon dioxide in deep eutectic solvents

Kun Xin et al.

Summary: Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) are considered as promising solvents for CO2 capture due to their low volatility and tunable properties. The diffusion coefficients of CO2 at infinite dilution in hydrophobic DESs were found to be much higher than those in hydrophilic DESs. The behavior of CO2 diffusion in hydrophilic DESs and some ILs/hydrophobic DESs with large molar volumes was significantly different from that in traditional solvents and ILs.

Phase behavior and extraction mechanism of methanol-n-hexane separation using choline-based deep eutectic solvent

Xingyi Liu et al.

Summary: Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) have attracted increasing attention as green solvents for azeotropic separation due to their low vapor pressure, nontoxicity, and low cost. In this study, three choline-based DESs were used to separate methanol-n-hexane azeotrope, and their extraction efficiencies were compared. The extraction mechanism of methanol by DESs was studied using molecular dynamics (MD) method, and the experimental and simulation results were in good agreement. Among the three DESs, ChCl/EG(1:2) showed the highest extraction efficiency for methanol. The role of Cl- in the liquid-liquid equilibrium (LLE) was found to be crucial, primarily provided by the electrostatic force.

Junaid Haider et al.

Summary: Biogas, as a renewable fuel, requires purification and upgrading due to trace contaminants and high CO2 content. Chemical absorption is commonly used, but issues such as solvent decomposition, toxicological impact, high maintenance costs, and corrosivity limit its large-scale application. Ionic liquids have emerged as alternative solvents with advantages in CO2 uptake, thermal stability, and negligible vapor pressure. This review provides the first comprehensive comparison of biogas upgrading technologies, highlighting the potential of ILs for practical, technical, and economic viability.

COSMO-RS prediction and experimental verification of deep eutectic solvents for water insoluble pesticides with high solubility

Juan Wang et al.

Summary: The solubility of 9 water-insoluble pesticide active ingredients (PAIs) in 133 deep eutectic solvents (DESs) was predicted using a COSMO-RS model based on hydrogen bond acceptors and hydrogen bond donors. Thirteen DESs with superior solubility were screened out and verified through experiments. The study also found that some PAIs can be mutually dissolvable with specific DESs. The research suggests that DESs can be a potential alternative to toxic organic solvents in pesticide formulations.

Screening of ionic liquids as sustainable greener solvents for the capture of greenhouse gases using COSMO-RS approach: Computational study

Nazrul Islam et al.

Summary: With the growth of the world's population, urbanization, and industrialization, the production of greenhouse gases has also increased. It is necessary to capture these gases to reduce their levels in the atmosphere due to their harmful impact on the environment and livelihoods. Conventional solvents for capturing greenhouse gases are toxic, expensive, and generate additional waste. Ionic liquids (ILs) provide a sustainable alternative as green solvents due to their excellent properties. However, screening millions of ILs is time-consuming and inconvenient. This study used the COSMO-RS technique to pre-screen 720 ILs combinations and identified suitable cations and anions for capturing greenhouse gases.
