Wetting and evaporation of multicomponent droplets

Zhenying Wang et al.

Summary: Wetting and evaporation of sessile droplets are widespread phenomena with significant implications in various industrial and everyday processes. This paper provides a comprehensive review of the physical and physicochemical mechanisms underlying the wetting and spreading of multicomponent droplets, particularly focusing on volatile multicomponent droplets. The paper also summarizes the experimental and numerical methodologies used to study these complex droplets, including their application conditions, accuracy, resolution, and limitations. Furthermore, the authors discuss the importance of exploring the interacting mechanisms with complex droplets and highlight the potential innovations in cutting-edge applications such as 3D printing, self-cleaning, digital microfluidics, cellular sorting, and biomedical diagnosis.

Au Nanorings with Intertwined Triple Rings

Sungjae Yoo et al.

Summary: The study designed complex Au nanorings with intertwined triple rings (ANITs) and achieved a high yield without purification steps. The resulting ANITs exhibited remarkably high enhancement factors and superior near-field focusing compared to other reported nanoparticles, allowing for systematic investigation of localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) and single-particle surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) coupling with varying nanoring arrangements.

Controlling uniform patterns by evaporation of multi-component liquid droplets in a confined geometry

Jeongsu Pyeon et al.

Summary: Surface-coating technologies are vital for various applications, such as ink-jet printing and micro-electronic engineering. This study introduces a novel approach to achieve uniform patterns with multi-component solutions in a confined geometry, using Marangoni effects to alter internal flow and prevent coffee-ring formation, resulting in uniformly dried patterns.
