Surfactant-free synthesis of covalent organic framework nanospheres in water at room temperature

Jia He et al.

Summary: Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are a new class of porous materials with unique characteristics. This study introduces a surfactant-free method to synthesize COF nanomaterial in water, allowing for control over the morphology and size of COFs. The use of tiny amounts of co-solvents ensures stability of COF nanomaterials in aqueous solution, and water plays a crucial role in size adjustment of COFs.

In Situ Synthesis of Gold Nanoclusters in Covalent Organic Frameworks with Enhanced Photodynamic Properties and Antibacterial Performance

Hean Zhang et al.

Summary: In this work, ultrasmall gold nanoclusters (AuNCs) were synthesized in situ in the nanopores of covalent organic framework (COF) nanoparticles, resulting in enhanced fluorescence, improved photosensitizing capabilities, and promising antibacterial performance. The incorporation of AuNCs into COFs led to efficient electron transfer and increased separation of photogenerated electron-hole pairs, significantly enhancing the light-triggered reactive oxygen species (ROS) production of COFs. The resulting nanocomposites exhibited efficient photodynamic killing on Escherichia coli under visible light exposure. This study provides a facile strategy for the preparation of COF/AuNC nanocomposites for ROS-related applications.

Multivariate covalent organic frameworks boosting photocatalytic hydrogen evolution

Ting Zhou et al.

Summary: The study synthesized a series of highly crystalline and porous multivariate COFs through an organobase-modulated multicomponent aldimine reaction, enabling precise tuning of optical bandgaps and energy band positions by varying the feed amounts of two amine species. These multivariate COFs facilitate exciton dissociation and free charge generation due to the strong electron-deficient BT moiety as an acceptor, leading to high hydrogen evolution rates. However, continuously declining performances were observed with an increase in the BT moiety in the multicomponent skeletons.
