Multi-Scale tailoring of lithium ion diffusion from densification to coarsening

Sujin Park et al.

Summary: The performance of lithium-ion batteries can be optimized for either high power or high energy by manipulating the morphology and structure of the electrode. This study investigates different strategies to enhance Li-ion diffusion at micro- to macro-level, by tailoring the path from densification to coarsening. The influence of microstructure, sintering time, and critical temperature on diffusivity and tortuosity is studied, and the tailored parameters are compared with calculated results.

Process optimization and effect of sputtering pressure on electrochromic properties of flexible WO3 films prepared by DC magnetron sputtering

Huizhong Ma et al.

Summary: In this study, WO3 films were prepared on flexible indium tin oxide/polyethylene terephthalate substrates through DC magnetron sputtering at approximately 40 degrees C, and the effects of sputtering pressure on the microstructure, morphology, and electrochromic properties of the films were investigated. The results showed that the optimal values of thickness, surface roughness, and grain size for excellent electrochromic properties of the WO3 films were achieved at 2.0 Pa sputtering pressure. The films exhibited high optical modulation amplitude, fast coloring and bleaching response times, and low electrochemical impedance.

Band gap narrowing induced by oxygen vacancies in reactively sputtered TiO2 thin films

Abdelouadoud El Mesoudy et al.

Summary: Amorphous TiO2-x thin films were deposited using direct current reactive magnetron sputtering. The defect concentration could be controlled by adjusting the oxygen flow rate during deposition. The properties of the TiO2-x film were significantly influenced by the deposition regime. The refractive index decreased with increasing oxygen flow rate due to changes in film density. In addition, increasing the oxygen vacancy defect concentration resulted in a slight decrease in the optical bandgap and wider Urbach band tails near the conduction band edge. Under oxygen-deficient conditions, the optical bandgap decreased and Urbach tails widened, causing a shift of the Fermi level towards the conduction band and an enhanced concentration of charge carriers.

Analysis of amorphous tungsten oxide thin films deposited by magnetron sputtering for application in transparent electronics

Micha Mazur et al.

Summary: This paper analyzed the properties of tungsten oxide thin films prepared using the magnetron sputtering method. Changes in the Ar:O-2 gas mixture ratios were found to influence the structural, optical, and electrical properties of the deposited coatings significantly. The results suggest that controlling the gas atmosphere during sputtering can tailor the optoelectronic properties of tungsten oxide thin films, offering potential applications in transparent electronics.

Fast electrochromic response and high coloration efficiency of Al-doped WO3 thin films for smart window applications

Summary: The study investigated the influence of Al doping on the electrochromic properties of WO3 film, finding that the Al:WO3 film exhibited outstanding electrochromic performance with wide optical modulation, high coloration efficiency, and quick reaction kinetics. The incorporation of Al element into the WO3 network was confirmed through various analyses, and the increase of active surface in the Al:WO3 film enhanced transport kinetics for electron and ion intercalation/deintercalation, improving coloration efficiency. These results not only provide insights for electrode materials in electrochromic display applications, but also offer a cost-effective strategy for manufacturing doped metal oxide films.

Effects of oxygen concentration variation on the structural and optical properties of reactive sputtered WOx thin film

Samiya Mahjabin et al.

Summary: The study investigates the influence of oxygen concentration on the structural and optical properties of WOx films, prepared by reactive sputtering at varying oxygen concentrations. The films' thickness and surface roughness were found to be dependent on oxygen concentration, impacting their optical parameters. The optimized WOx film shows potential as an efficient electron transport layer for perovskite solar cells, achieving high quantum efficiency and short-circuit current density.
