Etiology and Prevention of Common Injuries in Golf

Ike B. Hasley et al.

Summary: Golf is a popular sport with a unique and complex swing, which can lead to musculoskeletal injuries in both amateur and professional golfers. Understanding the biomechanics of the golf swing and its relation to injury can help prevent these injuries. Most injuries occur in the upper limb and lumbar spine. This review provides an overview of musculoskeletal pathologies in golfers, along with prevention strategies and swing modifications to address these injuries.

Inertial Motion Capture-Based Wearable Systems for Estimation of Joint Kinetics: A Systematic Review

Chang June Lee et al.

Summary: Joint kinetics plays a vital role in biomechanics for evaluating the mechanical load and understanding the motor function of joints. Inertial motion capture (IMC) systems have gained attention in recent years due to their wearability and ubiquitous measurement capability. This review explores the methodology and results of studies that estimate joint kinetic variables using IMC systems. The selected studies employ two types of estimation methods: inverse dynamics-based and machine learning-based. Both methods have demonstrated good performance in analyzing joint kinetics during various daily activities.

The swing performance Index: Developing a single-score index of golf swing rotational biomechanics quantified with 3D kinematics

Joanne Y. Y. Zhou et al.

Summary: The coordination of pelvic and upper torso rotations in the golf swing is crucial for generating power. This study aims to develop a single-score index based on rotational biomechanics that can differentiate between amateur and professional golfers.

3D trunk orientation measured using inertial measurement units during anatomical and dynamic sports motions

Niels P. Brouwer et al.

Summary: This study found that using IMUs to measure three-dimensional trunk orientation during dynamic sports motions and isolated anatomical trunk motions had good accuracy and high similarity to optical motion capture methods. IMUs show promise as an alternative for field-based measurement of trunk orientation in dynamic sports and anatomical motions.

Small changes in ball position at address cause a chain effect in golf swing

Sung Eun Kim et al.

Summary: The study found that the position of the golf ball along the mediolateral direction can have significant effects on weight distribution, shoulder angle, and body center of mass position, causing a chain reaction throughout the golf swing process.
