Fine-tune d-band center of cobalt vanadium oxide nanosheets by N-doping as a robust overall water splitting electrocatalyst

Zuyang Luo et al.

Summary: In this study, novel nitrogen-doped cobalt vanadium oxides were synthesized and used as efficient cocatalysts for oxygen and hydrogen evolution reactions. These catalysts demonstrated remarkable electrocatalytic performance and long-term solid stability, enabling operation at high current densities with minimal degradation. The outstanding performance can be attributed to the nanosheet structure and the fine-tuning of d-band center and band gap through nitrogen doping.

Interface and bulk engineering of VO2 thin film deposited on Si for multi-level metal-to-insulator transitions

Hyobin Choi et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates a sequential process of vanadium metal e-beam evaporation and thermal post oxidation to fabricate stable VO2 thin films with reduced interfacial mixing. The fabricated VO2 device exhibits distinctive multi-level metal-to-insulator transition characteristics and reproducible on/off switching behavior, matching well with nanoscale transition probed by conductive atomic force microscopy analysis. This finding paves the way for highly stable VO2 thin films and their applications in integrated Si-based semiconductor devices such as memory devices and ultrafast switches.

Recent progress on V2O5 based electroactive materials: Synthesis, properties, and supercapacitor application

Abdudin G. Temam et al.

Summary: The concerns of sustainable energy rely on efficient renewable energy sources and effective storage devices. Supercapacitors are reliable energy storage devices with rapid charging rate, high power density, simple setup, and good stability. The performance of supercapacitors is significantly influenced by electrode materials. Vanadium pentoxide, with mixed oxidation states, eco-friendliness, low cost, high capacitance, and high energy density, is a potential electroactive material for supercapacitors. However, its poor conductivity and low cyclic stability are major drawbacks that affect its electrochemical properties. Various strategies to overcome these limitations have been reviewed in this article.

Complex Research on Amorphous Vanadium Oxide Thin Films Deposited by Gas Impulse Magnetron Sputtering

Michal Mazur et al.

Summary: This work examined vanadium oxide thin films prepared by gas impulse magnetron sputtering with different Ar:O-2 gas ratios. The results showed that the thin films were amorphous and crack-free, and the transparency increased with a higher oxygen content in the gas mixture during deposition. The electrical measurements revealed that the thin films exhibited either electron or hole conduction type, depending on the sputtering gas composition. The gas sensing response toward diluted hydrogen was visible only in the p-type thin films at low operating temperature.

Influence of VO2 based structures and smart coatings on weather resistance for boosting the thermochromic properties of smart window applications

Muhammad Khuram Shahzad et al.

Summary: Vanadium dioxide (VO2)-based energy-saving smart films or coatings have attracted great interest for their reversible crystalline structural transition and significant changes in transmittance and reflectance in the infrared range. However, obstacles such as high phase transition temperature, low luminous transmittance, solar modulation ability, and poor environmental stability hinder their commercial application. This review summarizes recent progress in enhancing the thermochromic properties of VO2-hybrid materials, particularly in improving environmental stability. Future development trends are also presented to promote the commercial production of VO2 smart coatings.
