Magnetostriction of amorphous Co-based and Fe-Ni-based magnetic microwires: Effect of stresses and annealing

V. Zhukova et al.

Summary: The magnetostriction coefficient and its stress dependence are investigated in Co- and Fe-Ni-based glass-coated microwires. It is found that the hysteresis loops and magnetostriction coefficients are mostly determined by the chemical composition of the metallic nucleus. The stress dependence of the magnetostriction coefficient is linear for both types of microwires, but with opposite trends for Co-rich and Fe-Ni-rich microwires. The annealing process also affects the magnetostriction coefficient.

From functional units to material design: A review on recent advancement of programmable microwire metacomposites

A. Uddin et al.

Summary: This review introduces a low-profile strategy based on designing a single wire functional unit and assembling it in a specific arrangement to develop a range of microwire composites with programmable EM responses. By arranging the wires in different combinations, a wide range of metacomposites from continuous to randomly dispersed shortcut microwire composites can be achieved, exhibiting large transmission tunability.

Advanced functional magnetic microwires for technological applications

Arcady Zhukov et al.

Summary: This article provides an overview of the development of low-cost magnetic microwires with insulating, flexible, and biocompatible glass coating. The magnetic properties of these microwires can be tuned, and they exhibit excellent magnetic softness and fast domain wall propagation. Various methods, such as heat treatment and stress annealing, can be used to further improve their magnetic properties. The article also discusses the influence of structure and chemical composition on the magnetic and transport properties of crystalline microwires. The potential applications and future developments of magnetic microwires are briefly discussed.

Effect of Joule heating on GMI and magnetic properties of Fe-rich glass-coated microwires

A. Gonzalez et al.

Summary: The influence of Joule heating on the magnetic properties and GMI effect of Fe75B9Si12C4 glass-coated microwires was studied. It was found that Joule heating led to a decrease in coercivity but maintained a rectangular shape of the hysteresis loops in the microwires. Interestingly, the GMI ratio was significantly increased in the Joule heated samples. The improvement in the GMI effect was attributed to the magnetic anisotropy induced by the Oersted magnetic field during Joule heating and the relaxation of internal stress. The Fe-rich microwires heated by Joule heating showed a remarkable enhancement in the GMI effect and their suitability for magnetic sensor applications was emphasized due to the abundance and lower cost of Fe compared to Co.

Engineering of magnetic properties and magnetoimpedance effect in Fe-rich microwires by reversible and irreversible stress-annealing anisotropy

P. Corte-Leon et al.

Summary: This study thoroughly analyzed the magnetic properties of amorphous FeSiBC microwires using hysteresis loops and Giant magnetoimpedance (GMI) measurements, focusing on the influence of annealing on the GMI effect and magnetic properties. It was observed that stress annealing induced transverse magnetic anisotropy and improved GMI effect, with the reversibility of the induced anisotropy depending on annealing conditions. Further improvements in GMI effect were achieved by annealing without stress following stress annealing in Fe-Si-B-C microwires.

Enhancement of Magnetic and Tensile Mechanical Performances in Fe-Based Metallic Microwires Induced by Trace Ni-Doping

Mingwei Zhang et al.

Summary: The study shows that the Ni-doping amount significantly affects the microstructure and properties of Fe-based microwires. Appropriate Ni-doping can improve tensile strength and enhance fracture reliability, while increasing Ni-doping amount leads to increased ductility and superior thermal stability in the microwire structure.
