A deep learning framework for realistic robot motion generation

Ran Dong et al.

Summary: Humanoid robots are being developed as personal assistants, but their fine motor skills are limited compared to humans. To address this, researchers propose a deep learning-based method to generate realistic robot motions by decomposing human motions into basic and realistic motions and learning the biomechanical relationships between them.

Foot Insole Pressure Distribution during the Golf Swing in Professionals and Amateur Players

Enrique Navarro et al.

Summary: This study compared the pressure distribution patterns on the foot insoles of golfers at different skill levels during the golf swing. The results showed differences in pressure distribution patterns between the left and right foot, but the patterns remained almost the same when switching between different clubs. Significant differences were also observed between professional golfers and players with medium and high handicaps in their pressure distribution patterns.

Nonlinear frequency analysis of COVID-19 spread in Tokyo using empirical mode decomposition

Ran Dong et al.

Summary: This study utilizes empirical mode decomposition to decompose daily COVID-19 infections in Tokyo and finds that analyzing nonlinear waves in the instantaneous frequency domain can evaluate and visualize the effectiveness of public health and social measures to stop the spread of the virus. Moreover, it provides a reference for setting the timeframe for state of emergency declarations.

Test-Retest Reliability of Task Performance for Golf Swings of Medium- to High-Handicap Players

Israel Villarrasa-Sapina et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the number of attempts necessary to obtain a reliable measurement protocol for swing performance variables in medium- to high-handicap players. The results showed that variables related to side carry could not be reliably measured in only fifteen trials, while the rest of the performance variables related to the club and ball trajectories could be reliably measured with a 3D Doppler radar with between seven and ten swings.

Collaborative Design in Kinetic Performance: Safeguarding the Uilleann Pipes through Inertial Motion Capture

Philip Morris et al.

Summary: This paper explores the possibilities of using motion capture as a tool to preserve and study Intangible Cultural Heritage practices. Through collaboration with Uillean pipe players, the movements of the players were recorded using motion capture technology and processed for dissemination using software. This cost-effective design of recording and collaboration supports community learning, situates the practice within cultural traditions, and enables digital cataloguing and storage.

Golf Swing Biomechanics: A Systematic Review and Methodological Recommendations for Kinematics

Maxime Bourgain et al.

Summary: This review examined the current state of golf swing biomechanics research, focusing on movement kinematics and suggesting research methodology recommendations. The lack of methodological consensus has led to contradictory results and limited the generalization of performance parameters. Three-dimensional approaches are commonly used in joint angular kinematic investigations, although recommendations by the International Society of Biomechanics are rarely considered.

Traditional Craft Training and Demonstration in Museums

Christodoulos Ringas et al.

Summary: This work focuses on the representation and demonstration of handicrafts for craft training in an ethnographic heritage museum. The process of representation and presentation of a specific craft, mastic cultivation, is described, including data collection, annotation, and semantic representation. The outcomes were used to create an exhibition that incorporates interactive experiences, mobile applications, and hands-on training, resulting in high acceptance and increased user interest based on preliminary evaluation results.

Reliability and Validity of the Polhemus Liberty System for Upper Body Segment and Joint Angular Kinematics of Elite Golfers

Matilda Jane Wheare et al.

Summary: The study aimed to determine the reliability and validity of the Polhemus Liberty system for golf swing analysis. Results showed that the Polhemus Liberty system was reliable across two sessions for all segment and joint angular kinematics, but there were differences compared to the VICON Nexus system at key events during the golf swing.
