Neural Dielet: A 0.4 mm3 Battery-Less Crystal-Less Neural-Recording System on Die Achieving 1.6 cm Backscatter Range With 2 mm x 2 mm On-Chip Antenna

Changgui Yang et al.

Summary: Miniaturization is crucial for designing wireless neural-recording systems. In recent years, the elimination of batteries in these systems has been achieved through wireless power transfer (WPT), but the miniaturization of the antenna and crystal has posed challenges. This study presents a 0.4 mm³ battery-less crystal-less neural-recording system on die (SoD) with a 2 mm x 2 mm on-chip coil antenna. The communication range is extended by a proposed dither-based technique, and a wireless-lock technique is used to remove the crystal. The SoD achieves a wireless communication range of 1.6 cm with a power consumption of 53.2 mu W, accompanied by simultaneous WPT for battery-less operation.

High-Frequency Light Rectification by Nanoscale Plasmonic Conical Antenna in Point-Contact-Insulator-Metal Architecture

Rajeshkumar Mupparapu et al.

Summary: Efforts have been made to develop efficient high-frequency rectifying antennas for light harvesting and photodetection applications, but there have been challenges in understanding the underlying physics and limitations in fabrication techniques. This study demonstrates a new type of rectifying antenna based on plasmonic carrier generation, which shows improved current generation and high efficiency at 280 THz (1064 nm).

Low-Cost Compact Integrated Rectenna for Implantable Medal Receivers

Saad G. Muttlak et al.

Summary: This work presents a novel fully integrated rectenna circuit for implanted medical devices, utilizing tunnelling-based devices. The use of an ASPAT as the active rectifier provides high non-linearity and temperature insensitivity. By integrating a Cockcroft-Walton rectifier with an L-shaped planar folded antenna structure, a miniaturized rectenna with improved matching characteristics is demonstrated.

Nonstoichiometric Nanolayered Ni/NiO/Al2O3/CrAu Metal-Insulator-Metal Infrared Rectenna

Summary: By engineering a subnanometer-thick and nonstoichiometric Al2O3 in a Ni/NiO/Al2O3/CrAu diode, a lower resistance (<2 kΩ) and small area of 0.025 μm^2 have been achieved. The double-insulator-metal-insulator-metal (MIM)-M-2 rectennas demonstrate improved total conversion efficiencies and detectivities compared to previous structures.
