Anomalous Nernst Effect in Flexible Co-Based Amorphous Ribbons

Marcio A. Correa et al.

Summary: Fe3Co67Cr3Si15B12 ribbons with high flexibility and excellent corrosion stability were produced using rapid quenching technique. Their structural characteristics were verified by X-ray diffraction, and their static magnetic properties were explored using inductive technique and vibrating sample magnetometry. The thermomagnetic response of the ribbons, investigated through the Anomalous Nernst Effect, showed a linear behavior and demonstrated potential for sensor applications on curved surfaces.

Platinum Nanoparticles Anchored on Covalent Triazine Frameworks Modified Cordierite for Efficient Oxidation of Hydrogen Isotopes

Meiyun Xu et al.

Summary: In this study, hydrophobic anchoring sites were designed on cordierite to bind platinum nanoparticles for the efficient oxidation of hydrogen isotopes. The platinum nanoparticles were uniformly dispersed with a diameter of 1.8-2.4 nm on the catalyst. The catalyst exhibited high catalytic activity for the oxidation of hydrogen isotopes at various temperatures and high space velocity, and showed stable activity over 246 hours of continuous and intermittent operations.

Magnetic properties and nanocrystallization behavior of Co-based amorphous alloy

Yu. Nykyruy et al.

Summary: The magnetic properties of the amorphous Co57Fe5Ni10Si11B17 alloy were investigated using a vibrating sample magnetometer. The temperature dependence of saturation magnetization was measured, and the Curie point and crystallization onset temperature were determined as 560 K and 760 K, respectively. The alloy was produced as a 30 μm thick ribbon using the melt spinning method, and its amorphous structure was examined using X-ray diffraction. The crystallization behavior of the alloy was studied by annealing the samples at temperatures ranging from 723 K to 1023 K.

Large anomalous Nernst effect and nodal plane in an iron-based kagome ferromagnet

Taishi Chen et al.

Summary: The anomalous Nernst effect (ANE), which converts heat flow into transverse electric voltage, is caused by the Berry phase of the electronic wave function near the Fermi energy EF. Therefore, it can be used as a sensitive probe to detect a topological state with large Berry curvature. In this study, we observe a high ANE exceeding 3 microvolts per kelvin above room temperature in the kagome ferromagnet Fe3Sn with a Curie temperature of 760 kelvin. The large ANE is a result of a nodal plane that produces a flat hexagonal frame with strongly enhanced Berry curvature. Our discovery of the large ANE in Fe3Sn opens up possibilities for exploring the functionality of flat degenerate electronic states and developing flexible film thermopiles and heat current sensors.

Magnetoimpedance of CoFeCrSiB Ribbon-Based Sensitive Element with FeNi Covering: Experiment and Modeling

Stanislav O. Volchkov et al.

Summary: Soft magnetic materials, particularly Co-based amorphous ribbons, are in high demand for electronic and biomedical applications due to their high magnetoimpedance effect, sensitivity to magnetic fields, corrosion stability, and affordability. By depositing additional magnetic and non-ferromagnetic layers on these ribbons, their functional properties can be modified for various purposes such as magnetic biosensors for self-assembling processes in biological experiments. This study focused on investigating the magnetic properties and magnetoimpedance effect of Co-based amorphous ribbons and composites, providing insights for the development of MI sensors, including biosensors for magnetic label detection.

Colossal anomalous Nernst effect in a correlated noncentrosymmetric kagome ferromagnet

T. Asaba et al.

Summary: In UCo0.8Ru0.2Al, a colossal anomalous Nernst effect (ANE) is observed due to strong electronic correlations from uranium's 5f electrons and narrow bands, leading to a large thermoelectric response. Additionally, uranium's strong spin-orbit coupling results in an intrinsic transverse response in this material related to the Berry curvature associated with the relativistic electronic structure.
