Nanomaterials by severe plastic deformation: review of historical developments and recent advances

Kaveh Edalati et al.

Summary: This article comprehensively reviews recent advances in the development of ultrafine-grained and nanostructured materials through severe plastic deformation and provides a brief history of this field. Severe plastic deformation methods have been effective in producing materials with advanced mechanical and functional properties, and the field of NanoSPD has experienced significant progress in the past two decades.

Influence of strain rate and Sn in solid solution on the grain refinement and crystalline defect density in severely deformed Cu

Ghenwa Zaher et al.

Summary: The addition of Sn in Cu results in a significant decrease in grain size, accumulation of higher stored energy, and higher hardness. Increasing the HPT deformation rate leads to significant heat dissipation in CuSn8, compared to Cu. Interestingly, the deformation rate has opposite effects on the microhardness of UFG Cu and CuSn8, decreasing for Cu and saturating faster to higher values for CuSn8.
