Stress contribution of B2 phase in Al0.7CoCrFeNi eutectic high entropy alloy

Daeho Yun et al.

Summary: In this study, the deformation behavior and strengthening contribution of the FCC phase and B2 phase in Al0.7CoCrFeNi eutectic high entropy alloys were investigated. It was found that the FCC phase exhibited slip-dominant deformation, while the stress contribution of the B2 phase significantly increased with an increase in plastic strain, becoming the predominant factor in tensile deformation.

The respective strain hardening of constituting phases during Luders deformation of a medium-Mn steel

S. Pan et al.

Summary: The strain hardening in a medium-Mn steel during Luders deformation is primarily contributed by the transformation-induced plasticity effect in retained austenite, as the strain hardening of the ferrite matrix is much lower than that of the austenite phase due to a martensitic transformation.

In-situ investigation of strain partitioning and microstructural strain path development up to and beyond necking

Hyun Seok Oh et al.

Summary: Multi-phase metallic materials exhibit strain partitioning and localization during plastic deformation, but the understanding of high strain levels and spatial variations in strain path development at the micro-scale is lacking. A practical method using in-situ SEM mechanical tests of pre-strained samples has been developed to address these challenges, providing insights into the strain behavior at different deformation levels in dual-phase steel.

Work hardening behavior of dual phase copper-iron alloy at low temperature

Takayuki Yamashita et al.

Summary: The tensile behavior of a copper-iron alloy was studied at different temperatures, showing an increase in strength and work-hardening rate at low temperatures. The phase stress of Fe significantly increased with decreasing temperature, while the phase stress response of Cu to applied true stress increased with decreasing temperature, indicating an increase in work-hardening rate. The strengthening of Fe and the increase in work-hardening of Cu contributed to the overall increase in strength and work-hardening rate of the Cu-Fe alloy at low temperatures.

Unique transition of yielding mechanism and unexpected activation of deformation twinning in ultrafine grained Fe-31Mn-3Al-3Si alloy

Yu Bai et al.

Summary: The tensile mechanical properties of fully recrystallized TWIP steel specimens with various grain sizes were investigated. It was found that specimens with smaller grain sizes exhibited abnormal discontinuous yielding behavior, with an increase in dislocation density and formation of deformation twins and stacking faults. Despite conventional beliefs, the grain refinement in the specimens led to a higher density of deformation twins. The change in yielding behavior from continuous to discontinuous in ultrafine grain specimens was attributed to a limited number of free dislocations in each grain, altering deformation and twinning mechanisms.
