Carbon sequestration of Chinese forests from 2010 to 2060 spatiotemporal dynamics and its regulatory strategies

Weixiang Cai et al.

Summary: Forestation is crucial for mitigating global climate change, and existing forests in China play a significant role in carbon sequestration. The carbon sequestration rate of Chinese forests is expected to peak near 2035 and effective management strategies will be needed to maintain a high level of carbon sequestration. However, the contribution of new forestation to additional carbon sequestration is minimal.

Key areas and pathways for carbon emissions reduction in Beijing for the Dual Carbon targets

Ren Huang et al.

Summary: The article evaluates the key areas and pathways for carbon emissions reduction in Beijing from 2015 to 2060 using extended STIRPAT model and LEAP-Beijing model. It highlights that energy structure upgrading and energy efficiency improvement are crucial for the city's emissions reduction. Achieving the Dual-Carbon targets requires a low-carbon transition across all sectors, with prioritization on power, transportation, and commercial sectors.

Predicting the environmental economic dispatch problem for reducing waste nonrenewable materials via an innovative constraint multi-objective Chimp Optimization Algorithm

Lei Zhu et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a novel swarm-based metaheuristic method called Chimp Optimization Algorithm (ChOA) to tackle the environmental, economic dispatch issue and reducing the waste nonrenewable materials. The result of ChOA is compared with other benchmark algorithms to confirm its efficiency, showing superior performance in both single- and multi-objective optimization.

Decoupling and decomposition analysis of investments and CO2 emissions in information and communication technology sector

Jianda Wang et al.

Summary: This study examines the decoupling states of ICT investments and emission intensity in 20 OECD economies, as well as the impact of ICT investments on carbon emissions. Results reveal that the number of economies achieving the ideal strong decoupling state increased to nine between 2009 and 2018.

What drives energy intensity fall in China? Evidence from a meta-frontier approach

Boqiang Lin et al.

Summary: This study proposed a novel meta-frontier multi-tier approach to analyze the impacts of industrial structure reorganization, regional equilibrium development, and management efficiency on energy intensity change, using China's energy intensity as a case study. The results showed a significant decline in China's energy intensity during 2000-2016, primarily driven by potential energy intensity change and technological progress. Additionally, six factors, including industrial technological gaps and regional technological gaps, were found to have important impacts on energy intensity. Local governments should tailor policies based on the characteristics of different factors at multiple spatial scales.
