An ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography-fluorescence detection (UHPLC-FLD) method for simultaneous determination of albendazole and its three metabolites in poultry eggs

Fanxun Guan et al.

Summary: A sensitive, selective, and quick method for the simultaneous detection of Albendazole and its three metabolites in poultry eggs has been established. The method showed good linearity and recoveries, and all target analytes could be detected within a short period of time.

Residues of an anthelmintic veterinary drug (closantel) detected in red foxes (Vulpes vulpes) in Scotland

Marta Giergiel et al.

Summary: The contamination of the environment by veterinary medicines and their impact on wild animals is a growing concern. This study examined the livers of 118 foxes for residues of various veterinary medicines used on farm livestock. The results found a surprising frequency and level of closantel contamination, raising concerns about potential impacts on wildlife and the environment. The study also suggests that red foxes could serve as useful sentinel species for monitoring veterinary medicine residues in the environment.

An analysis of the spatio-temporal occurrence of anthelmintic veterinary drug residues in groundwater

D. Mooney et al.

Summary: A comprehensive study in the Republic of Ireland investigated the occurrence of 40 anthelmintic residues in groundwaters, revealing 17 compounds detected at 22% of sites, with albendazole and its transformation products being most frequently found. Multivariate statistical analysis identified significant source and pathway factors related to the occurrence of anthelmintics in groundwater, and temporal variations showed higher frequencies and concentrations during specific months coinciding with increased usage and meteorological events. This study provides valuable insights into the presence of anthelmintics in Irish groundwater and seasonal trends critical for assessing potential impacts of climate change.

Occurrence and risk assessment of anthelmintics in Tuojiang River in Sichuan, China

Sibei Chen et al.

Summary: This study investigated the occurrence, ecological risk, and exposure evaluation of nineteen anthelmintics in Tuojiang River in southwest China. Findings showed benzimidazoles as the primary anthelmintics, and assessment revealed macrocyclic lactones had relatively high toxicity to non-target organisms in aquatic environment. Exposure risk was deemed negligible for both children and adults.
