A novel equal frequency sampling of factor levels (EFSFL) method is applied to identify the dominant factor inducing the combined toxicities of 13 factors

Ting-Ting Ding et al.

Summary: The GSA-qHTS technique for screening toxic factors in complex mixtures suffers from unequal factor levels, leading to asymmetry in the importance of elementary effects. A new method called EFSFL was developed to achieve equal frequency sampling of factor levels, and important factors affecting mixture toxicities were screened using high-throughput microplate toxicity analysis and elementary effect analysis.

Correlation between acute brain injury and brain metabonomics in dichlorvos-poisoned broilers

Lujia Huang et al.

Summary: The study found that acute DDVP poisoning has serious effects on the brain tissue of broilers, causing hyperglycemia, oxidative stress, brain edema, and neuronal mitochondrial damage. DDVP also significantly altered neurotransmitter secretion, energy metabolism, and amino acid metabolism. Additionally, various metabolites were significantly correlated with blood glucose, oxidative stress biomarkers, and brain injury pathology.

SAHmap: Synergistic-antagonistic heatmap to evaluate the combined synergistic effect of mixtures of three pesticides on multiple endpoints of Caenorhabditis elegans

Peng Huang et al.

Summary: This study explores the interaction of pesticide mixtures on Caenorhabditis elegans behavioral toxicity endpoint by creating a synergistic-antagonistic heatmap. The results show significant concentration-response relationship and strong synergism among the toxic chemicals. The emergence of synergism raises concerns about these hazardous chemicals.

Combined lethal toxicities of pesticides with similar structures to Caenorhabditis elegans are not necessarily concentration additives

Peng Huang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the mixture toxicity of pesticides with similar chemical structures and found that the interaction types of different types of pesticide mixtures varied, with some showing antagonistic effects and others showing synergistic effects. The structural similarity of pesticides was found to have a quantitative relationship with the toxicity interaction of mixtures, indicating that within a certain range, the structural similarity of the same type of pesticides may exhibit additive action.

Bioactive Phytochemicals with Anti-Aging and Lifespan Extending Potentials in Caenorhabditis elegans

Nkwachukwu Oziamara Okoro et al.

Summary: Plants and their products, whether in the form of herbs or functional foods, are rich in bioactive phytochemicals that have medicinal, culinary, and nutraceutical applications. These bioactive compounds have been found to possess antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-carcinogenic, and antimicrobial properties, among others, which can improve health quality in humans and animals. Efforts to discover and study these bioactive compounds have been intensified using the Caenorhabditis elegans aging model, revealing common aging and longevity pathways shared between C. elegans and humans.

Assessing the combined toxicity of carbamate mixtures as well as organophosphorus mixtures to Caenorhabditis elegans using the locomotion behaviors as endpoints

Yu Wang et al.

Summary: This study systematically evaluated the locomotion behavioral toxicities of carbamate pesticides (CMs) and organophosphorus pesticides (OPs) on Caenorhabditis elegans, and found that they produce significant inhibitory effects on the locomotion behavior of the nematodes, with OPs showing higher toxicity than CMs. Toxicological interactions in the binary CM and OP mixtures were found to be different from each other, highlighting the importance of examining multiple concentration ratios rather than relying on just one.

Insights into the microbial degradation and biochemical mechanisms of carbamates

Sandhya Mishra et al.

Summary: Carbamate compounds, commonly used in agriculture as alternatives to persistent organochlorine pesticides, pose toxic environmental residues due to their inhibitor activity against acetylcholinesterase enzyme. Microbial technology can be an efficient and eco-friendly tool for carbamate insecticide degradation in contaminated environments, utilizing metabolic activities of microorganisms to improve biodegradation processes.
