Fine human genetic map based on UK10K data set

Ziqian Hao et al.

Summary: In this study, a refined machine leaning approach was used to estimate the recombination rate of the human genome. The results showed that increasing the sample size can reduce the fluctuation of the estimated recombination rate and lead to a more precise genetic map, which has potential implications for other human biology research.

Franz Baumdicker et al.

Summary: This article introduces the release of msprime 1.0 and summarizes its numerous features and advantages through a collaborative open source development model. Compared to specialized alternatives, msprime demonstrates excellent performance with faster speed and higher memory efficiency, making it a commonly used simulation tool in population genetics.

Variances and covariances of linear summary statistics of segregating sites

Yun-Xin Fu

Summary: This paper analytically explores a flexible class of linear summary statistics, including several well-known quantities. Analytical formulas for the variances and covariances of nine such linear summary statistics are derived, most of which are unknown to date. The study also compares the newly developed linear summary statistics with Watterson's estimator in terms of variance.

Summary: The scenario of Homo sapiens origin within Africa has become complex, with the pan-African perspective challenging the single-origin hypothesis. This paper reviews the evidence for each model and proposes a synthesis that better aligns with evolutionary theory.

Origins of modern human ancestry

Anders Bergstrom et al.

Summary: New findings in palaeoanthropological and genomic records have reshaped our understanding of the origins of modern human ancestry. The article outlines three key phases in the evolution of modern human ancestry, from the global expansion of modern humans to their interactions with Neanderthals and Denisovans, the African origin of modern human diversity, and the complex separation of modern human ancestors from archaic human groups. It argues that there is no single point in time when modern human ancestry was limited to a specific birthplace, and that the appearances of defining traits of Homo sapiens align with a variety of evolutionary histories.
