Tsunami risk communication and management: Contemporary gaps and challenges

Actionable and understandable? Evidence-based recommendations for the design of (multi-)hazard warning messages

Summary: Communicating event-related hazard information is important for reducing injuries and fatalities. This study aimed to develop actionable and understandable hazard warning messages by designing various multi-hazard overviews and messages. The results showed that the design of hazard overviews had no significant effect on people's intention to take action, but overviews with time and action indications increased understanding of immediate actions. Adding a time-and action-related icon to hazard messages increased people's intention to take action. The severity and urgency of the hazard, as well as personal factors, also influenced people's intention to take action.

Qualitative analysis of visual risk communication on twitter during the Covid-19 pandemic
