Analyzing Values of the Coefficients of Activity in Solutions of Formates of Alkali Metals, Based on Their Dielectric Properties

I. Yu Shilov et al.

Summary: A generalized Debye-Huckel theory was used to calculate the coefficients of activity for water and ions in solutions of alkali metal formates at 298 K based on the experimental values of their static permittivity. The model was found to qualitatively reproduce the nonmonotonic dependence of the coefficients of activity in sodium and potassium formate solutions. The effects of hydration and ionic association on the thermodynamic properties of the studied systems were also discussed.

Analysis of Activity Coefficients in Aqueous Solutions of Alkali Metal Nitrates on the Basis of Dielectric Properties

I. Yu. Shilov et al.

Summary: The activity coefficients in aqueous solutions of alkali metal nitrates at 298 K were calculated using experimental values of the static dielectric constant of solutions and the generalized Debye-Huckel theory. The study showed that the dependence of activity coefficients on cation radius and the influence of potassium, rubidium, and cesium cations on activity coefficients in the presence of nitrate ions can be reproduced without optimizing model parameters in certain systems. Factors such as hydration and ion association were considered in evaluating the thermodynamic properties of the studied systems.
