Characterization of epitaxial CVD graphene on Ir(111)/α-Al2O3(0001) by photoelectron momentum microscopy

Eri Hashimoto et al.

Summary: This study characterized CVD-grown graphene on Ir(111)/alpha-Al2O3(0001) using photoelectron momentum microscopy and provided comprehensive insights into the properties of graphene, including its single-crystallinity, number of layers, crystal orientation, and interaction with the substrate, and their correlation with CVD growth conditions.

Fermiology and Origin of Tc Enhancement in a Kagome Superconductor Cs(V1-xNbx)3Sb5

Takemi Kato et al.

Summary: The study found that Nb substitution can increase the superconducting transition temperature and reduce the CDW temperature in Cs(V1-xNbx)(3)Sb-5. Nb substitution adjusts the position of the bands in the band structure, resulting in a decrease in the CDW gap and T-CDW. This study reveals the important role of the SP density of states in stabilizing the CDW, and suggests that the enhancement of superconductivity by Nb substitution is achieved through the expansion of the electron pocket and the recovery of the density of states at the Fermi level.

Mott versus Hybridization Gap in the Low-Temperature Phase of 1T-TaS2

Francesco Petocchi et al.

Summary: We address the problem of the ground state of 1T-TaS2 by studying the correlated electronic structure of stacked bilayers. The surface termination determines whether the uncorrelated system is band insulating or exhibits a metallic surface state. A Mott gap opens in the surface state but is smaller than the gap originating from the bilayer structure. Our results are consistent with recent experimental measurements and clarify the interplay between Mott insulating and band insulating behavior in this system.

Resonant Photoemission Spectroscopy of Highly-Oriented-Coronene Monolayer using Photoelectron Momentum Microscope

Yuri Hasegawa et al.

Summary: In this study, the photoelectron spectra of a highly-oriented-coronene monolayer on Au(111) were measured using a photoelectron momentum microscope (PMM). The research demonstrated the ability of the newly installed PMM apparatus to provide whole valence band mapping and site-selective resonant photoemission spectroscopy.

Observation of Hole States at Perylene/Au(110) and Au(111) Interfaces

Osamu Endo et al.

Summary: The geometric and electronic structures of perylene monolayers on gold single-crystal surfaces and the impact of Br doping were investigated. The study found that perylene molecules adsorbed on the Au(110)(1 x 2) surface form a monolayer with a specific orientation, while on the Au(111) surface, parallel molecular planes are observed. Additionally, the study found that doped Br can penetrate the perylene monolayer and cause a significant change in molecular orientation. Cationic perylene exhibits resonance with the singly unoccupied molecular orbital (SUMO) in the C K NEXAFS spectra.

Visualization of Chiral Electronic Structure and Anomalous Optical Response in a Material with Chiral Charge Density Waves

H. F. Yang et al.

Summary: Chiral materials, like layered transition metal dichalcogenide 1T-TaS 2, have intriguing physical properties. An emergent chiral electronic band structure in the CDW phase, characterized by windmill-shaped Fermi surfaces, has been spectroscopically visualized. Chiral Fermi surfaces and anomalous Raman responses coincide with the CDW transition, proving their lattice origin.

Contrast Inversion of Photoelectron Spectro-microscopy Image

Seiji Makita et al.

Summary: The contrast of photoelectron microscopy images is influenced by the excitation photon source and photoelectron kinetic energy. Differences in work functions lead to contrast inversion in images excited by Hg lamp, while variations in valence band density of states cause contrast inversion in vacuum ultraviolet light excitation. It is essential to qualitatively understand the mechanism of contrast formation for accurate interpretation of images.
