Composite piezoelectric-electromagnetic synchronously powering and sensing device for vehicle monitoring

Yuhang Han et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a PESSD device for vehicle monitoring, which combines PEH and EMH as self-powered and self-sensing modules for wireless transmission of self-sensing signals. The influence of the rectangular magnet in PEH, the coil, and the cylindrical magnet in EMH on the output performance of the prototype is studied. Under the optimal parameter conditions of prototype assembly, the maximum output voltage of PEH is 60.62 Vpp, and the maximum output voltage of EMH is 3.81 Vpp. The ability of simultaneous self-power supply and self-sensing was verified by installing eight prototype arrays into the deceleration belt and testing on the actual road.

A hybrid piezoelectric-electromagnetic wave energy harvester based on capsule structure for self-powered applications in sea-crossing bridges

Lingfei Qi et al.

Summary: The ocean is a vast source of kinetic energy that can be harvested, particularly for powering electric facilities like sensors for sea-crossing bridges. A proposed piezoelectric-electromagnetic wave energy harvester (PEWEH) utilizes a sealed capsule structure for self-powered applications in sea-crossing bridges, with components including piezoelectric and electromagnetic modules for energy storage. Experimental results demonstrate the potential for PEWEH to generate up to 7V output voltage and 162mW power, making it a promising system for self-powered applications in low-power monitoring sensors for sea-crossing bridges.

Timing strategy for boosting energy extraction from triboelectric nanogenerators

William Harmon et al.

Summary: An unexpected additional energy generation by the triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) is discovered in this work, due to its capacitive behavior. By acting as a capacitor in parallel with a temporary storage capacitor in a power management system, the TENG contributes an additional amount of energy proportional to its capacitance, leading to unexpectedly high output power. The optimal timing for energy transfer is when the separation distance between the triboelectric surfaces approaches 0.
