Thermal modelling and experimental evaluation of a novel concentrating photovoltaic thermal collector (CPVT) with parabolic concentrator

Hossein Afzali Gorouh et al.

Summary: A zero-dimensional thermal model was developed to analyze a novel low concentration CPVT collector by solving heat transfer and energy balance equations. Optical simulations of the collector were conducted using a Monte-Carlo ray-tracing software. Experimental validation and investigation of factors affecting collector performance were carried out.

Experimental investigation of a CPVT collector coupled with a wedge PVT receiver

Diogo Cabral et al.

Summary: This paper presents an experimental investigation on a photovoltaic-thermal solar collector (PVT) that generates both electricity and heat simultaneously. Outdoor testing measurements show that the overall heat loss coefficient is 4.1 W/m(2).℃, with a measured thermal optical efficiency of 59% and electrical efficiency of 8%. The study also reveals the sensitivity of the wedge receiver placement to high incidence angles, affecting the electrical performance efficiency.

Design and operation of a versatile, low-cost, high-flux solar simulator for automated CPV cell and module testing

A. Buchroithner et al.

Summary: Solar power generation is becoming increasingly important in the energy sector, with a rise in concentrating solar power systems due to their ability to reach high process temperatures and/or high PV efficiencies. High-flux solar simulators are necessary for technological advancements, and a versatile, low-cost simulator has been designed for the investigation of CPV cells or other components and modules used in concentrating solar systems. The simulator meets IEC and ASTM standards, with adjustable concentration factors of over 200 suns in a 50 x 50 mm area and a cost kept below 5000 euros.
