Investigation of thermal inertia and hydric properties of an eco-building material: compressed stabilized earth blocks

Manel Boulmaali et al.

Summary: This article investigates the thermal properties and hydric behavior of compressed stabilized earth blocks (CSEB). The study shows that increasing moisture content leads to higher thermal conductivity and diffusivity, with a linear relationship between thermal conductivity and moisture content. The effect of moisture on thermal inertia and other thermal properties is established. Experimental characterization of CSEB behavior during water absorption and drying is also discussed. Results emphasize the importance of considering moisture effect when calculating the thermal behavior and energy consumption of buildings.

Prediction of Wall and Indoor Hygrothermal Properties of Rammed Earth Folk House in Northwest Sichuan

Qinglong Gao et al.

Summary: Rammed earth, as an ancient building material, was numerically simulated in Mianyang, showing its ability to weaken temperature fluctuations and maintain relative humidity around 60%. However, the use of waterproof coating may hinder the wall's ability to regulate indoor humidity, while decorative materials could increase the fluctuation range of indoor humidity and risk of mold growth.

Green synthesis of DyBa2Fe3O7.988/DyFeO3 nanocomposites using almond extract with dual eco-friendly applications: Photocatalytic and antibacterial activities

Makarim A. Mahdi et al.

Summary: In this study, photocatalytical and antibacterial activities of DyBa2Fe3O7.988/DyFeO3 (Dy-Ba-Fe-O) nanocomposites were investigated as eco-friendly applications. The synthesis method chosen was ultrasound technique to ensure low energy consumption and achieve a pure product with good crystallinity. Natural almond core extract was used as a green reagent. The nanocomposite exhibited a band gap of 2.6 eV, enabling visible-light photocatalysis. Significant degradation of Rhodamin-B dye and strong antibacterial activity against Gram-negative pathogens were observed. The properties of the nanocomposite were characterized by various analyses.

A Highly Sustainable Timber-Cork Modular System for Lightweight Temporary Housing

Francesco Barreca et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a highly sustainable timber-cork modular system for lightweight temporary housing. The system offers a modular structure that can be easily assembled and reused, with good structural, thermal, and environmental performance. Through a life cycle analysis comparison, the system shows lower greenhouse gas emissions and higher biogenic carbon storage compared to traditional container houses.
