Unsteady conjugate heat transfer characteristics in hexagonal cavity equipped with a multi-blade dynamic modulator

Maruf Md Ikram et al.

Summary: This study investigates the transient analysis of thermal response and frictional loss characteristics for flow-modulated conjugate heat transfer phenomena. It explores the effects of different blade configurations on heat transfer and power loss in the flow domain. The results show that increasing the number of blades has a negligible impact on the heat transfer rate, and the three-blade modulator exhibits the lowest power loss coefficient and power instability.

Entropy generation minimization EGM analysis of free convective hybrid nanofluid flow in a corrugated triangular annulus with a central triangular heater

Sufian Munawar et al.

Summary: Entropy production always accompanies heat transfer phenomena, leading to the destruction of available work and energy resources. This study focuses on minimizing valuable energy resources in convective heat transfer augmentation situations by reducing temperature differences and entropy generation. An optimal thermal design for augmented free convective situations is analyzed, considering a hybrid nanofluid flow in a corrugated triangular annulus heated by an underneath partial heater. Three approaches, including corrugated walls, inner heater at lower nonuniform temperature, and magnetic field effects, are applied to reduce entropy production. Numerical solutions are obtained using the finite element method, and the validity of the results is confirmed through comparison with previously published investigations. The study highlights the influential role of the thermal design in reducing entropy production, attributed to the higher thermal conductivity of the hybrid nanofluid. It is found that maintaining the inner triangular body at a temperature lower than the bottom heat source significantly reduces overall entropy, and corrugated walls minimize entropy more effectively than flat walls.

Effects of temperature-dependent viscosity on natural convection in a porous cavity with a circular cylinder under local thermal non-equilibrium condition

Lei Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, the influences of exponentially temperature-dependent viscosity on free convection in a porous cavity with a circular cylinder under local thermal non-equilibrium condition are numerically investigated using lattice Boltzmann method. The results show that an increase in LTNE parameters leads to a dramatic increase in solid heat transfer rate, while higher values of n result in decreased heat transfer rates for both fluid and solid phases.

Instability characteristics of a highly separated natural convection flow: Configuration of a tandem of cold and hot horizontally oriented cylinders placed within a cold cubic enclosure

Efi Zemach et al.

Summary: The study numerically investigated the instability characteristics of a 3D highly separated natural convection flow developing within a cold cubic enclosure in the presence of a tandem of hot and cold horizontally aligned cylinders. It was found that the transition to unsteadiness of the flow sets in via the first Hopf bifurcation, which preserves two types of reflectional symmetry with respect to the central cross-section of the cubic enclosure. The impact of the closeness of the cavity boundaries to the cylinder surfaces on the quantitative and qualitative characteristics of the observed instabilities was extensively investigated.

Conjugate forced convection transient flow and heat transfer analysis in a hexagonal, partitioned, air filled cavity with dynamic modulator

Maruf Md Ikram et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the transient analysis of forced convection flow and heat transfer in a hexagonal cavity, incorporating a rotating blade and a flow modulator. Numerical results show an inverse relationship between heat transfer effectiveness and Biot and Rayleigh numbers, improving significantly with higher Reynolds number up to a critical state at Re-cr = 650. Higher Reynolds number also reduces the power spectrum of the system response.

Periodic unsteady natural convection in square enclosure induced by inner circular cylinder with different vertical locations

Zhiheng Wang et al.

Summary: The numerical study investigates the periodic unsteady natural convection flow and heat transfer in a square enclosure with a heated circular cylinder at different vertical locations. Results show that heat transfer significantly depends on the vertical location and pulsating temperature of the inner cylinder. Comparing with steady state natural convection, heat transfer is generally enhanced for time-periodic unsteady natural convection, with local maximum heat transfer rates observed at certain locations. The phenomenon of backward heat transfer is discussed, with the quantity of back heat transfer rate presented.

Summary: This study investigates magnetohydrodynamic natural convection of nanofluid in a wavy walled enclosure with a circular hot cylinder, considering the influences of the Hartmann number, Rayleigh number, and nanoparticle concentration. Results show that increasing the Hartmann number has a significant effect on Nusselt number at higher Rayleigh numbers, while heat coefficient plays a crucial role in altering Nu at low Rayleigh numbers.
