Sensitivity analysis and uncertainty quantification of a seismic risk model for road networks

Eduardo Allen et al.

Summary: This study proposes a risk framework to evaluate operational consequences in interurban road networks exposed to seismic hazard using travel time delays and propagate uncertainty in the model. The risk values are evaluated using Monte Carlo simulations, and uncertainty is propagated using a polynomial chaos expansion meta-model. The results demonstrate that the parameters that most significantly influence risk are fragility, loss of road capacity, and traffic volume.

Evaluating the dynamic resilience of the multi-mode public transit network for sustainable transport

Zhizhen Liu et al.

Summary: This study aims to establish a dynamic resilience evaluation method and explore the resilience evolution process for multi-mode public transit. The research found that the network's resilience performance was the worst when the subway station was destroyed. By adjusting the capacity control parameters, transport efficiency can be improved.

A modified connectivity link addition strategy to improve the resilience of multiplex networks against attacks

Dongming Fan et al.

Summary: Current studies have shifted from the analysis of single-layer network to multi-layer network. However, the performance of multi-layer networks has been significantly influenced by inevitable disturbances; therefore, the resilience of such networks must be maintained. Previous studies on the resilience of multi-layer networks have mainly focused on interdependent networks rather than on multiplex networks, which means that the effectiveness of current methods to improve the resilience of multiplex networks remains limited. This study develops a two-layer multiplex network and describes failure propagation models by motifs in single-layer and multiplex networks, proposes an approach to evaluate the resilience of multiplex networks, and presents strategies for its improvement.

Measures to evaluate post-disaster trip resilience on road networks

Mohammad T. (Siavash) Aghababaei et al.

Summary: This research proposes a new Trip Resilience (TR) measure to assess the resilience of transportation networks following a natural disaster, integrating all three dimensions of resilience. The methodological approach includes an analysis of existing transport resilience measures and a case study verification. The importance of including both robustness and redundancy in post-disaster recovery phase was highlighted.

Sequential Restorations of Complex Networks After Cascading Failures

Yuxuan Huang et al.

Summary: In this paper, cascading failure and the restoration process of complex networks are investigated. Two distinct approaches are proposed for sequential recovery, aiming at either restoring the network to the largest extent in the shortest time or maximizing the increase of network size with a given number of nodes to be repaired. Simulation results have shown the effectiveness of the proposed strategies on different network models.

Vulnerability assessments of weighted urban rail transit networks with integrated coupled map lattices

Jianhua Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper proposes an integrated coupled map lattices (ICML) to assess the vulnerability of weighted urban rail transit networks (URTNs) under external disturbance R. By refining passenger flow and adopting three parameters, the model is verified using Nanjing metro network. Results show a linear relationship between node and edge betweenness, and URTNs are susceptible to attacks and become more vulnerable with increased external disturbance. Furthermore, attacks based on largest degree nodes and highest betweenness nodes have different impacts on URTNs, with critical thresholds identified for smashing the network.

Using the disaster spreading theory to analyze the cascading failure of urban rail transit network

Wencheng Huang et al.

Summary: A new dynamic model was established to analyze the cascading failure in the urban rail transit network by considering time cost and disaster spreading theory. The study found that the scale of failed stations is largest when fixed transfer stations are attacked, and there is a positive correlation between self-recovery factor and cascading failure scale.

Reliability-based indicator for post-earthquake traffic flow capacity of a highway bridge

Seyed Hooman Ghasemi et al.

Summary: The paper introduces a reliability-based indicator to assess the expected post-earthquake traffic flow capacity of a highway bridge. By calculating the relationship between the post-earthquake reliability index of a bridge and its traffic flow capacity, the average allowable traffic flow capacity that can be carried by a bridge in the event of an earthquake is determined.
