Diversity and characteristics of commercial Red Sea fish species based on fish market survey: informing management to reduce the risk of overfishing

Yassein A. Osman et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the diversity and characteristics of commercial Red Sea fish species landed in the Egyptian coast through surveys conducted at the largest local fish market. The results show the most abundant fish families, such as Serranidae, Lethrinidae, and Scaridae, and highlight the importance of Carangidae in terms of biomass. The study also reveals the significant contribution of Serranidae, Lethrinidae, Scaridae, and Lutjanidae families to the revenue, as well as the seasonal variation in fish prices.
