Curing kinetics and mechanical properties of cyanate ester/hyperbranched benzoxazine copolymers

Zhicheng Wang et al.

Summary: The study found that blending a small amount of HB-PED230 can effectively reduce the curing temperature of CE resin, while improving the bending strength and impact strength. Additionally, it was observed that as the amount of HB-PED230 increased, the flexural strength and flexural modulus of the copolymers were improved.

The chemical effect of furfuryl amide on the enhanced performance of the diphenolic acid derived bio-polybenzoxazine resin

Zizhao Qian et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated the amidation strategy of converting DPA to DPAM to solve the decarboxylation issue in polybenzoxazines, while also improving their thermal properties. All amide-containing polybenzoxazines showed excellent thermal stabilities, with poly(DFA-fa) exhibiting the highest glass transition temperature and decomposition temperature. A possible post-curing reaction mechanism was proposed to explain the outstanding thermal performance of poly(DFA-fa) resin, presenting an innovative strategy for high-performance bio-based polymers.

Surface modification of polybenzoxazines by electrochemical hydroquinone-quinone switch

Gizem Kaya et al.

Summary: The study presents a novel strategy for fabricating electro-responsive polybenzoxazine based high-performance thermoset surfaces. Three structurally different benzoxazines were coated as thin films on ITO electrodes and cured by thermal activation. Structural characteristics, thermal behavior, electrochemical properties, and surface properties were evaluated using various techniques. This work demonstrates a straightforward electrochemical method for tuning surface morphology and hydrophilicity through redox processes and hydrogen bonding interactions.

Summary: In this work, an effective approach using Meldrum's acid-containing diamine (MADA) as a functional monomer has been demonstrated to address the gelation and low molecular weight issues in the polymerization system of main-chain PBz. The resulting cross-linked PBz shows superior film formability, flexibility, high glass transition temperature, and Young's modulus compared to conventional oxydianiline-based cross-linked PBz, indicating significant advances in both PBz synthesis and properties.
