Cerium doped Zr-based metal-organic framework as catalyst for direct synthesis of dimethyl carbonate from CO2 and methanol

Linmeng Huo et al.

Summary: The disadvantage of Ce/Zr metal oxide catalyst for direct synthesis of dimethyl carbonate (DMC) from CO2 and methanol, low DMC formation rate due to low specific surface area and active sites, can be improved by highly uniform dispersion cerium-doped UiO-66 MOFs. Experimental evaluation results showed that Ce-doped UiO-66 MOFs exhibited significantly improved catalytic performance compared to traditional Ce/Zr metal oxide catalyst.

Direct synthesis of dimethyl carbonate from carbon dioxide and methanol over Ce-BTC-derived CeO2

Zeyu Jiang et al.

Summary: In this study, a series of Ce-BTC MOF-derived nanorod CeO2 catalysts were prepared for the direct synthesis of DMC from CO2 and methanol. The calcination atmosphere had a great impact on the structure and catalytic properties of the obtained CeO2 catalysts. CeO2 derived from calcination under H2 atmosphere at 500 degrees C exhibited higher specific surface area, oxygen vacancy concentration, and CO2 adsorption capacity, leading to a significantly higher DMC yield compared to commercial nano CeO2 and other prepared catalysts without dehydrating agents.

Synthesis and characterization of V2O5-Ga2O3 photocatalysts and their application on the photocatalytic reduction of CO2

Rodrigo Espinosa et al.

Summary: The photocatalytic reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2) to produce methanol (CH3OH) is a promising strategy for clean energy production. The combination of V2O5 and Ga2O3 as photocatalysts enhances the photocatalytic activity by decreasing the band energy and generating synergies. Surface area and morphology do not significantly affect the photocatalytic activity, while species such as Ga2p(3/2) and Ga2p(1/2) identified by XPS enhance the activity by forming vacancies and reducing the bandgap in the combined oxides. These factors contribute to the interaction of electron-hole pairs with CO2 for methanol generation.

CuO decorated vacancy-rich CeO2 nanopencils for highly efficient catalytic NO reduction by CO at low temperature

Fei Wang et al.

Summary: With the rapid development of transportation and vehicles, the elimination of NOx and CO has become a major concern. This study successfully prepared vacancy-rich CeO2 nanopencil supported CuO catalysts, which showed the highest catalytic activity for NO reduction by CO compared to other catalysts. The morphology control of CeO2 support was found to enhance the catalytic performance by enabling favorable electron transfer and increasing the density of surface oxygen vacancies and Cu+ species.

Haiou Liu et al.

Summary: The catalytic effects of CeO2 nanorods prepared by freeze drying on the synthesis of dimethyl carbonate (DMC) from CO2 and methanol were investigated. It was found that CeO2-FD exhibited the highest catalytic activity among all the catalysts studied, attributed to its larger specific surface area, pore volume, oxygen vacancy concentration, and acid-base active site.

Integrated CO2 capture and methanation on Ru/CeO2-MgO combined materials: Morphology effect from CeO2 support

Shuzhuang Sun et al.

Summary: Integrated CO2 capture and methanation (ICCM) is attracting more attention for reducing CO2 emissions. This study developed and applied combined materials for the ICCM process, and investigated the influence of different morphologies of CeO2 on CO2 conversion and CH4 yield. The results showed that CeO2 materials with rod and particle morphologies exhibited better catalytic performance, with the rod morphology performing exceptionally well in terms of stability and reusability. In situ DRIFTS analysis revealed important methanation intermediates in the ICCM process.

Summary: The signature of oxygen ion conductivity in hydro-thermally synthesized Ce(1-x)LaxO(2-delta)(0 ≤ x ≤ 0.50) solid-electrolyte samples has been investigated. The temperature-dependent softening of oxygen defect mode in Raman spectroscopy and broadening of a feature related to oxygen defects in optical absorption spectroscopy can be efficient tools to probe the signature of oxygen ion conductivity.
