Lymphoepithelial carcinoma of the parotid gland: Clinicopathological analysis of 146 cases from a single institute

Chunye Zhang et al.

Summary: Parotid lymphoepithelial carcinoma (LEC) is a rare tumor associated with Epstein-Barr virus infection and cervical node metastases. Patients with secondary LEC tend to have earlier tumor staging, while older age is an adverse prognostic indicator. Most patients have a good prognosis.

Is postoperative radiotherapy an essential treatment for nonmetastatic lymphoepithelial carcinoma of the salivary gland?

Xiaoshuang Niu et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the role of postoperative radiotherapy (PORT) in patients with lymphoepithelial carcinoma of salivary gland (LECSG) and provided individualized treatment recommendations. The results showed that PORT had a positive prognostic effect on progression-free survival (PFS) and locoregional control (LRC) of patients. It was found to be especially beneficial for patients with a primary tumor diameter larger than 3 cm and/or more than 2 positive lymph nodes.

Summary: This report describes 3 cases of advanced stage Lymphoepithelial carcinoma of the salivary gland treated with induction chemotherapy and concurrent chemoradiotherapy, all achieving complete response and remaining local-regional recurrence-free during follow-up. No serious adverse events were found.

Assessment of Survival Model Performance Following Inclusion of Epstein-Barr Virus DNA Status in Conventional TNM Staging Groups in Epstein-Barr Virus-Related Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma

Wang-Zhong Li et al.

Summary: By incorporating EBV DNA status and TNM staging, a refined system for staging nasopharyngeal carcinoma has shown improved outcomes and better predictive performance compared to existing schemes. This RPA-based staging system may enhance prognostic stratification and aid in clinical trial designs.

Analysis of Trends in Mortality in Patients with Lymphoepithelial Carcinoma of the Head and Neck

Hector Picon et al.

Summary: The study showed that incidence-based mortality for lymphoepithelial carcinoma patients has been improving for African American/Black patients and worsening for Caucasian/White, American Indian/Alaskan native and Asian/Pacific Islander patients from 2000 to 2014. There were significant race and gender disparities in mortality rates, with Asian/Pacific Islander patients having the highest mortality rate. Further study on this rare subtype is warranted to understand its etiology, clinical course, and cure rates.
