Is postoperative radiotherapy an essential treatment for nonmetastatic lymphoepithelial carcinoma of the salivary gland?

Summary: This study evaluated the role of postoperative radiotherapy (PORT) in patients with lymphoepithelial carcinoma of salivary gland (LECSG) and provided individualized treatment recommendations. The results showed that PORT had a positive prognostic effect on progression-free survival (PFS) and locoregional control (LRC) of patients. It was found to be especially beneficial for patients with a primary tumor diameter larger than 3 cm and/or more than 2 positive lymph nodes.

Analysis of Trends in Mortality in Patients with Lymphoepithelial Carcinoma of the Head and Neck

Summary: The study showed that incidence-based mortality for lymphoepithelial carcinoma patients has been improving for African American/Black patients and worsening for Caucasian/White, American Indian/Alaskan native and Asian/Pacific Islander patients from 2000 to 2014. There were significant race and gender disparities in mortality rates, with Asian/Pacific Islander patients having the highest mortality rate. Further study on this rare subtype is warranted to understand its etiology, clinical course, and cure rates.
