Impacts of paste preparation methods on the porous TiO2 nanostructure properties and naturally dye-sensitized solar cells performance

Javad Salimian et al.

Summary: Researchers have explored the use of environmentally friendly pigments and porous nanostructures in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) over the past two decades. In this study, pigments extracted from black plums were used to increase the biocompatibility of DSSCs. The extracted pigments showed suitable energy levels for electron transfer and comparable electrochemical properties to synthetic pigments. Additionally, different methods of producing TiO2 pastes resulted in varying nanostructure morphologies and properties. The optimized TiO2 particle size was found to be 25.6 nm. The efficiency of DSSCs using the extracted pigments ranged from 0.027% to 0.256%.

Porous and ultrafine nitrogen-doped carbon nanofibers from bacterial cellulose with superior adsorption capacity for adsorption removal of low-concentration 4-chlorophenol

Yu Gao et al.

Summary: The nitrogen-doped carbon nanofibers obtained from bacterial cellulose through ammonia treatment exhibited excellent adsorption performance for the removal of organic pollutants from aqueous solutions, with enhanced adsorption capacity, short equilibrium time, and a wide pH range. Their superior adsorption capabilities were attributed to their nanoarchitectures with exposed pores, nitrogen functionalities, and hydrophobic surface.

Adsorption, kinetics and thermodynamics studies of methyl orange dye sequestration through chitosan composites films

Shah Hussain et al.

Summary: Different films containing pure chitosan and chitosan-coated zeolites were used for the sequestration of methyl orange dye. Results showed that CSZ3 had the highest adsorption capacity while CSZ4 had the lowest. Various analysis methods such as multilayer adsorption and pseudo-second order kinetics were used to explore the adsorption kinetics, equilibrium, and thermodynamics of the dye.

Removal of anionic dyes with glycidyl methacrylate-grafted polyethylene terephthalate (PET) fibers modified with ethylenediamine

Ogun Bozkaya et al.

Summary: In this study, PET copolymers grafted with GMA and modified with EDA were used as exclusive adsorbents for removal of CR and AV-7 in aqueous environments. Various analyses including CHNS, SEM, FTIR, and NMR were conducted to study the chemical and morphological changes of the grafted and modified fibers. The removal yield of dyes using the fibers was found to be about 100% under optimal conditions, with pH values of 5 for CR and 3 for AV-7. Adsorbed dyes could be desorbed from the fibers with 1 M NaOH.

Trimethylamine functionalized radiation-induced grafted polyamide 6 fibers for p-nitrophenol adsorption

Shihab Ezzuldin M. Saber et al.

Summary: The method of pre-irradiation grafting was used with an electron beam accelerator to graft PA6 fibers with GMA, followed by functionalization using TMA. Various analyses were conducted to determine the properties of the fibrous adsorbent, which was used for the adsorption of PNP from aqueous solution. The adsorption behavior was found to follow the pseudo-second order model, with the Redlich-Peterson isotherm model providing the best description of the equilibrium data.

Phenol and p-nitrophenol biodegradations by acclimated activated sludge: Influence of operational conditions on biodegradation kinetics and responding microbial communities

Suat Peng Sam et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the influence of operational factors and microbial communities of activated sludge on the aerobic biodegradation of phenol and PNP, finding that the degradation kinetics were affected by operational factors and PNP exhibited higher toxicity and inhibitory effects compared to phenol. The study also identified critical PNP concentration and attenuation of inhibitory effects on PNP-acclimated activated sludge. Additionally, potential degrading strains were isolated and phenol degradation mechanism was identified.
