Novel possibility for cutaneous melanoma treatment by means of rosmarinic acid action on purinergic signaling

Gilnei Bruno da Silva et al.

Summary: This review article explores the potential of retinoic acid (RA) as an adjuvant in melanoma treatment through modulating the purinergic cellular pathway. The study proposes several hypotheses for using RA to mitigate the Warburg effect, block P2X7, and act as an antagonic molecule of the P2Y12 receptor in cancer treatment. While further research is needed, this work serves as a foundation for future studies on the promising compound.

Caffeine improves the cytotoxic effect of dacarbazine on B16F10 murine melanoma cells

Tatiane Renata Fagundes et al.

Summary: This study found that caffeine can enhance the effects of dacarbazine on melanoma, by increasing its biotransformation, inducing apoptosis and DNA damage, and reducing levels of malondialdehyde. These promising results should be further evaluated in vivo experimental models.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Caffeine Induces G0/G1 Cell Cycle Arrest and Inhibits Migration through Integrin αv, β3, and FAK/Akt/c-Myc Signaling Pathway

Pichitchai Meisaprow et al.

Summary: Caffeine treatment did not have direct cytotoxic effects on lung cancer cells but inhibited cell proliferation and induced cell cycle arrest at G0/G1 phase within 48 hours. Caffeine also reduced the metastasis-related capabilities of cancer cells, including filopodia formation, migration, invasion, and survival in an anchorage-independent manner. Additionally, caffeine altered integrin patterns and downregulated metastasis-associated integrins, leading to decreased downstream signaling pathways.

ATP and cancer immunosurveillance

Oliver Kepp et al.

Summary: In the TME, intracellular ATP plays a critical role in bioenergetic metabolism, while extracellular ATP functions as a signal transducer, affecting biology dependent on receptor types, cell types, and regulatory circuitry activation status. Additionally, extracellular ATP is rapidly degraded, leading to the accumulation of metabolites with distinct biological effects.
