Summary: This study aimed to examine the differences in commuting modes and barriers to active commuting to university between sexes and countries, as well as to analyze the association between commuting modes and perceived barriers among male and female university students in Chile and Spain. A cross-sectional study was conducted between April 2017 and May 2018, and 2269 university students (53.0% women) were included in the study. The findings suggest that commuting modes and barriers to active commuting may be influenced by sex and country.

Summary: This article highlights the untapped potential to improve health through ambitious climate actions in cities and emphasizes the importance of integrating health into climate action. However, due to insufficient policy relevance, research often falls short of providing evidence that is most useful for decision-making.
