Bayesian networks in healthcare: What is preventing their adoption?

Summary: The research on Bayesian networks (BNs) in medical decision-making has not led to widespread adoption due to the gap between developing an accurate BN and demonstrating its clinical usefulness. This paper reviews literature on BNs in healthcare to identify barriers and facilitating factors, showing that barriers include data inadequacies, clinicians' resistance to new technologies, and a lack of clinical credibility, while facilitating factors include data collection improvements and interpretability of BN-based systems. This review provides a basis for formulating strategies for BN adoption in clinical settings.

Using EEG to Predict Clinical Response to Electroconvulsive Therapy in Patients With Major Depression: A Comprehensive Review

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the predictive value of baseline EEG settings on future clinical response to ECT in patients with depressive disorder. Results showed a correlation between P300 amplitude, coherence, and connectivity measures with remission, while sleep EEG recordings did not seem to be correlated with remission after ECT. Further large-scale prospective studies are needed to identify optimal EEG parameters associated with clinical response to ECT in depressive disorder.
