Association of serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentrations with risk of dementia among individuals with type 2 diabetes: A cohort study in the UK Biobank

Tingting Geng et al.

Summary: This study examined the association between serum vitamin D levels and dementia risk among individuals with type 2 diabetes and found that higher concentrations of serum vitamin D were significantly associated with a lower risk of all-cause dementia, Alzheimer's disease, and vascular dementia. The findings suggest that screening for serum vitamin D levels may be useful in dementia care and prevention among patients with type 2 diabetes.

Vitamin Supplementation and Dementia: A Systematic Review

Victoria Gil Martinez et al.

Summary: The relationship between diet and cognitive function is supported by extensive evidence. Supplementation of B Complex vitamins, particularly folic acid, may have a positive effect on delaying and preventing cognitive decline. Results for vitamin D supplementation are inconclusive, while individual use of ascorbic acid and high-dose vitamin E show positive effects on cognitive performance but lack sufficient evidence for support.

Brain vitamin D forms, cognitive decline, and neuropathology in community-dwelling older adults

M. Kyla Shea et al.

Summary: This study found that higher brain concentrations of 25(OH)D-3 were associated with a lower risk of dementia or mild cognitive impairment. However, there was no association between brain 25(OH)D concentrations and neuropathology outcomes. Further research is needed to understand the specific mechanisms underlying this potentially protective relationship.

Low Vitamin D Levels and Risk of Incident Delirium in 351,000 OlderUKBiobank Participants

Luke C. Pilling et al.

Summary: The study found that low vitamin D levels are associated with an increased risk of hospital-diagnosed delirium in older adults. Both vitamin D deficiency (<25 nmol/L) and insufficiency (25-50 nmol/L) were linked to higher delirium risks, independent of other relevant factors. Genetic analysis also supported a shared causal pathway between vitamin D levels and delirium.

Genomic risk score provides predictive performance for type 2 diabetes in the UK biobank

Xiaolu Chen et al.

Summary: This study developed a metaGRS for T2D prediction using a meta-scoring approach and evaluated its performance in a validation set. Results showed that individuals in the top 25% of metaGRS had a higher risk of T2D compared to those in the bottom 25%. Adding metaGRS to all conventional risk factors significantly improved the AUC for T2D prediction.
