Linda G. Koria et al.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence of frailty in older adults living with dementia and explored the differences in medication use according to frailty status. The findings showed a wide range of frailty prevalence in individuals with dementia, suggesting the need for further research on the impact of frailty on medication use.

Multimorbidity patterns in adult day health center clients with dementia: a latent class analysis

Tina Sadarangani et al.

Summary: This study aimed to classify and identify the demographic, functional, and clinical characteristics of Persons Living with Dementia (PLWD) in Adult Day Centers (ADCs) based on their level of medical complexity. The results showed a high degree of medical complexity among PLWD in ADCs, with the majority of individuals experiencing multiple chronic conditions and social disadvantages. A comprehensive multidisciplinary approach is urgently needed to address functional decline, loneliness, social isolation, and multimorbidity in this vulnerable population.

A latent class analysis to identify subgroups of VHA using homeless veterans at greater risk for suicide mortality

Ryan Holliday et al.

Summary: This study is of great significance for understanding the drivers of suicide among homeless veterans. It found that veterans with high psychiatric burden and high use of VHA services have the greatest risk of suicide mortality. Veterans with moderate psychiatric burden or primarily experiencing substance use disorders also face elevated risk.

The effect of comorbidities on survival in persons with Alzheimer's disease: a matched cohort study

Blair Rajamaki et al.

Summary: Alzheimer's disease is a major factor affecting survival, but comorbidities further decrease survival in individuals with Alzheimer's disease. Age, gender, socioeconomic position, and history of comorbidities are associated with shorter survival and higher risk of death in both cohorts, with hip fracture, stroke, and recent cancer treatment showing the strongest associations in the AD cohort.

Mortality rates in Alzheimer's disease and non-Alzheimer's dementias: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Chih-Sung Liang et al.

Summary: This study found that individuals with any type of dementia had a higher mortality rate than those without dementia, with non-Alzheimer's disease dementias associated with higher morality rates and shorter life expectancy compared to Alzheimer's disease. Developing tailored treatment and rehabilitation programmes for different types of dementia is crucial for mental health providers, patients, and their families.
