hSSB1 (NABP2/OBFC2B) modulates the DNA damage and androgen-induced transcriptional response in prostate cancer

Mark N. Adams et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the role of hSSB1/NABP2 in modulating the cellular response to androgens and ionizing radiation in prostate cancer. The expression of hSSB1 in prostate cancer is correlated with genomic instability and it regulates pathways involved in cell cycle progression and transcription. Additionally, hSSB1 is involved in modulating androgen response through transcriptional regulation. Exploiting hSSB1 in prostate cancer treatment might improve patient outcomes in ADT and/or radiotherapy.

Elevating CDCA3 levels in non-small cell lung cancer enhances sensitivity to platinum-based chemotherapy

Katrina Kildey et al.

Summary: Platinum-based chemotherapy is the mainstay of treatment for NSCLC, but resistance is a major issue. Research shows that CDCA3 levels correlate with sensitivity to platinum agents in NSCLC tumors, and inhibition of CK2 can increase CDCA3 levels and enhance sensitivity to platinum agents.

Structural basis for multifunctional roles of human Ints3 C-terminal domain

Jian Li et al.

Summary: The C-terminal domain of Integrator subunit 3 (Ints3) forms a stable dimer with a HEAT-repeat superhelical fold, binding single-stranded RNA/DNA and Integrator complex subunit 6 (Ints6). Interaction with Ints6 is critical for maintaining SSB1 protein level.

Phosphopeptide interactions of the Nbs1 N-terminal FHA-BRCT1/2 domains

Kyungmin Kim et al.

Summary: The study investigated the phosphopeptide binding characteristics of Nbs1 BRCT1/2 and identified structural homology with TopBP1 BRCT7/8 through molecular modeling. These features provide insight into the basis for interaction of SDT motifs with the BRCT1/2 domains and allowed identification of high and low affinity ligands.

Highly accurate protein structure prediction with AlphaFold

John Jumper et al.

Summary: Proteins are essential for life, and accurate prediction of their structures is a crucial research problem. Current experimental methods are time-consuming, highlighting the need for accurate computational approaches to address the gap in structural coverage. Despite recent progress, existing methods fall short of atomic accuracy in protein structure prediction.

Crystal structure of the INTS3/INTS6 complex reveals the functional importance of INTS3 dimerization in DSB repair

Yu Jia et al.

Summary: The research reveals the crucial role of the interaction between INTS3 and INTS6 in DSB repair, where INTS3 dimerization plays a key role in recognizing long ssDNA, and disruption of INTS3c/INTS6c interaction can impair the DSB repair process.
