A smart composite coating with photothermal response, anti-UV and anti-corrosion properties

Yue Sun et al.

Summary: In this study, a smart composite coating approach was proposed to enhance the anti-corrosion and anti-UV properties of epoxy coatings. Ce ion-intercalated montmorillonite (M-Ce) was used as reaction sites for 2-fluoroaniline polymerization (PFA) to prepare PFAM-Ce nanohybrids, which served as effective additives to the EP coating. The research demonstrated that PFAM-Ce exhibited UV resistance through free radical scavenging and UV absorption, and loading 2 wt% PFAM-Ce in the EP coating enabled light-to-heat conversion. The EP composites based on functionalized MMT showed significant improvement in corrosion resistance under UV radiation compared to conventional epoxy-based composites.

Hydrolysis of imidazoline based corrosion inhibitor and effects on inhibition performance of X65 steel in CO2 saturated brine

Amir Shamsa et al.

Summary: The molecular characteristics of a TOFA/DETA-based imidazoline inhibitor were evaluated to understand the corrosion inhibition performance. The inhibitor forms micellar solutions in CO2 saturated NaCl solution, with fully protonated conditions enhancing inhibitor solubility and molecular adsorption on the metal surface. The acid-catalysed hydrolysis of the inhibitor follows a pseudo-first-order reaction mechanism with significant effects on the corrosion behavior of X65 carbon steel.

Insight into the corrosion behaviour and degradation mechanism of pure zinc in simulated body fluid

Shiyu Huang et al.

Summary: Zn is considered a promising degradable biomaterial, but concerns exist due to unclear degradation mechanism in physiological solutions. The corrosion product film displayed a laminated structure with complex layers, and localized corrosion initiated at grain boundaries affecting degradation rate.

Synthesis and application of Zn-doped polyaniline modified multi-walled carbon nanotubes as stimuli-responsive nanocarrier in the epoxy matrix for achieving excellent barrier-self-healing corrosion protection potency

Parisa Najmi et al.

Summary: This study presents the synthesis of novel highly-oxidized multi-walled carbon nanotube (OMWCNT) particles modified by polyaniline (PANI) nanofibers and their application in epoxy-based nanocomposites for achieving a corrosion protection system with self-healing potential. The addition of zinc metal cations to the OMWCNT-PANI nanocomposite resulted in a smart self-healing anti-corrosion system with improved resistance. Enhanced dual active-barrier protection was observed in scratched coatings with modified nano-inhibitors, showing increased log|Z|10 mHz values.

Inhibition performance of benzimidazole derivatives with different heteroatoms on the under-deposit corrosion of carbon steel in CO2-saturated solution

L. Pang et al.

Summary: In this study, the inhibition performance of different benzimidazole compounds on under-deposit corrosion of carbon steel in CO2-saturated solutions beneath CaCO3 and SiO2 deposits was compared. It was found that 2-SH-BI had the highest inhibition efficiency, and the effectiveness of different inhibitors varied under different deposits.

Synergistic effect of 2-mercaptobenzimidazole and octylphosphonic acid as corrosion inhibitors for copper and aluminium - An electrochemical, XPS, FTIR and DFT study

Dzevad K. Kozlica et al.

Summary: The inhibitory action of 2-mercaptobenzimidazole (MBI) and octylphosphonic acid (OPA) on copper and aluminum in NaCl solution was investigated. While MBI was found to be a good inhibitor for copper but not for aluminum, OPA behaved complementarily. Evidence suggested that OPA changed the bonding of MBI on the copper surface, resulting in a thicker and more protective organic film.

Aqueous molybdate provides effective corrosion inhibition of WE43 magnesium alloy in sodium chloride solutions

Dmitry S. Kharitonov et al.

Summary: The study showed that the Na2MoO4 inhibitor can provide reliable corrosion inhibition for WE43 magnesium alloy at concentrations of 100 mM and above, with the formed surface layer consisting of mixed Mo(V, IV) species that exhibit an inhibition efficiency of 91-99% after 24 hours of exposure. A two-step oxidation-reduction mechanism of corrosion inhibition of the WE43 alloy by aqueous molybdates was proposed.
