Microcrack self-healing capability of waterborne polyurethane/polyacrylate composites with dynamic disulfide bond

Shuang Liang et al.

Summary: In this paper, a series of self-healing waterborne polyurethane/polyacrylate composites (SWPUA) with different disulfide content were synthesized. The effects of disulfide content on the dispersion stability, mechanical property, and self-healing properties of SWPUA were studied. The results showed that SWPUA-1 and SWPUA-2 with HEDS content of 0.0025 mol and 0.0050 mol had the best repair efficiency, recovering 101.03% and 102.18% after 3 hours of repair at 75°C, respectively. Additionally, SWPUA-1 exhibited the highest repeatedly repair efficiency of 91% for tensile strength and 75% for breaking elongation due to physical entanglement and chain link.

Multi-Crosslinked Hydrogels with Instant Self-Healing and Tissue Adhesive Properties for Biomedical Applications

Yongchao Jiang et al.

Summary: A new kind of multi-crosslinked hydrogel with short gelling time and injectable capacity is proposed in this study. The hydrogel shows robust tensile strength, higher adhesive strength than commercial fibrin glue, and instant self-healing behavior. Importantly, the multi-crosslinked hydrogel maintains its hemocompatibility and cytocompatibility in vitro, suggesting potential applications in tissue adhesive and implants.

Aggregation-Induced Luminescence Based UiO-66: Highly Selective Fast-Response Styrene Detection

Fan Yang et al.

Summary: In this work, a tetraphenylethylene-functionalized UiO-66 with aggregation-induced emission was successfully prepared and utilized as a luminescence sensor for VOCs detection. By combining UiO-66-TBPE with a polymer polyacrylate, a flexible hybrid membrane was obtained for fast detection of styrene vapor. Different fluorescence enhancement and quenching mechanisms for various VOCs were explained with the help of modern characterization techniques and computer simulation.

High strength, tough and self-healing chitosan-based nanocomposite hydrogels based on the synergistic effects of hydrogen bond and coordination bond

Qiongshan Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, a simple one-pot strategy was proposed for synthesizing physically cross-linked chitosan-based nanocomposite hydrogels using hydrogen bonds and metal-carboxylate coordination bonds. The resulting hydrogels exhibited pH-sensitivity, surface morphology and mechanical properties that could be regulated by their compositions. The optimal sample showed a three-dimensional structure, high tensile strength, and large elongation at break. The non-covalent interactions provided sacrificial bonds, improving the toughness and self-healing ability of the materials.
