Multi-objective optimization and exergoeconomic analysis of a multi-generation system based on biogas-steam reforming

Jinghan He et al.

Summary: In this study, a new design of a multi-generation integrated energy system powered by biogas energy is proposed, assessed, and optimized. Energy, exergy, exergo-economic, and economic investigations are conducted to evaluate the system's performance. The designed system is capable of generating 108.7 kW of power, 888.7 kW of cooling load, and 703.3 kg/h of hydrogen. The energy and exergy efficiencies of the system are determined to be around 31.51% and 31.14%, respectively. Comprehensive parametric evaluation and optimization are performed to assess the influence of key variables on the system's operation, leading to the establishment of two different optimization styles. The optimization results show that a TCOP of 16.23 S/GJ and a net power of 158.21 kW can be achieved in the multiobjective optimization mode.

Electrolyzer cell-methanation/Sabatier reactors integration for power-to-gas energy storage: Thermo-economic analysis and multi-objective optimization

Mohammad Jalili et al.

Summary: The objective of this study is to compare and optimize two power-to-gas energy storage systems based on thermo-economic analysis. The results show that the system based on a solid oxide electrolyzer cell (SOEC) has higher efficiency, lower electricity consumption, and lower lifecycle cost compared to the system based on a polymer electrolyte membrane electrolyzer cell (PEMEC). However, the PEMEC-based system produces slightly more methane with a lower heating value. Solar PV systems are found to be the most cost-effective option for electricity supply. Overall, the SOEC-based system is more attractive for power-to-gas purposes from a thermo-economic standpoint.

Modeling of Vapor-Liquid Equilibrium for Electrolyte Solutions Based on COSMO-RS Interaction

Weiping Liu et al.

Summary: This paper studies the modeling and calculation of vapor-liquid equilibrium (VLE) for electrolyte solutions, and further investigates the influence mechanism of microscopic interaction on macroscopic VLE using COSMOtherm. A developed model is proposed, in which the interaction parameters are linked to COSMO interaction energy (H_int). The interaction equations are remodeled using 1stopt software, and components are used to replace the interaction parameters used in a previous model. The developed model can successfully predict VLE data for electrolyte solutions based on the alpha and h(i) parameters.
