MitoStores: chaperone-controlled protein granules store mitochondrial precursors in the cytosol

Lena Kraemer et al.

Summary: The cytosol can transiently store mitochondrial precursor proteins in dedicated deposits called MitoStores, which suppress the toxic potential of accumulating precursor proteins and are controlled by Hsp42 and Hsp104.

The multi-factor modulated biogenesis of the mitochondrial multi-span protein Om14

Jialin Zhou et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigated the biogenesis of multi-span proteins in the mitochondrial outer membrane. Our findings suggest that the targeting specificity and efficiency of these proteins are influenced by their length, as well as the behavior of the membrane. Additionally, cytosolic proteins do not significantly contribute to the biogenesis process.

Tom70-based transcriptional regulation of mitochondrial biogenesis and aging

Qingqing Liu et al.

Summary: Mitochondrial biogenesis involves two major steps: transcriptional activation and protein import. Tom70, a receptor of the TOM complex, has been found to play a dual role in regulating mitochondrial protein transcription and import. This allows cells to accomplish mitochondrial biogenesis without compromising cytosolic protein homeostasis. Age-related reduction of Tom70 is associated with mitochondrial defects and accelerated aging, while overexpression of TOM70 delays mitochondrial dysfunctions and extends lifespan.

Alpha-Synuclein Aggregates Associated with Mitochondria in Tunnelling Nanotubes

Dario Valdinocci et al.

Summary: The interaction of pathological alpha-synuclein with mitochondria through tunneling nanotubes in synucleinopathies may contribute to the cell-to-cell spread of aggregates, potentially leading to disease propagation.

Biomolecular condensates at the nexus of cellular stress, protein aggregation disease and ageing

Simon Alberti et al.

Summary: Biomolecular condensates, formed through liquid-liquid phase separation in a tightly regulated manner, have fundamental roles in cellular organization and physiology. Recent studies provide insights into how cellular stress, ageing-related loss of homeostasis, and a decline in protein quality control may contribute to the formation of aberrant, disease-causing condensates.

Stress Granules Involved in Formation, Progression and Metastasis of Cancer: A Scoping Review

Mohammad Reza Asadi et al.

Summary: Research has shown that stress granules (SGs) play a crucial role in cancer formation and metastasis, with key components like G3BP1, TIA1, TIAR, and YB1 having significant impact in these processes. SG proteins are involved in translation, regulation of mRNA stability, and function in both the cytoplasm and nucleus, highlighting their importance in cancer progression.
