Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of AlSi10Mg/NbC Composite Produced by Laser-Based Powder Bed Fusion (L-PBF) Process

R. Raj Mohan et al.

Summary: In this study, AlSi10Mg metal matrix composites with varying weight percentages of niobium carbide were produced using a laser-based powder bed fusion process. The addition of niobium carbide improved the density and mechanical properties of the composite, but excessive amounts of niobium carbide reduced the tensile strength.

Temperature dependence of electrical resistivity, deformation, and fracture of polygranular graphite with different amounts of porosity

C. Paraskevoulakos et al.

Summary: Synthetic polygranular graphites have wide applications, with potential as moderator materials for high-temperature nuclear power plants. Experimental work evaluated the resistivity and mechanical behavior of the material at different temperatures. Results showed a 30% increase in stiffness above 400 degrees C and linear decrease in tensile strength with increasing porosity at 700 degrees C. Resistivity reduction during the temperature transition was found to be linearly dependent on porosity.

Experimental Investigation on the Cutting of Additively Manufactured Ti6Al4V with Wire-EDM and the Analytical Modelling of Cutting Speed and Surface Roughness

Manuela Galati et al.

Summary: Additive manufacturing technologies for metallic materials enable the production of high-performance components with optimized weight, geometry, and mechanical properties. However, post-processing operations are necessary, including part removal from the build platform, which must be performed quickly, accurately, and with a smooth surface finish. This study investigates the wire electric discharge machining (W-EDM) process for Ti6Al4V specimens produced by AM technologies and analyzes the influence of cutting parameters compared to those of conventional technology. Models of cutting speed and surface roughness are derived from collected data, highlighting the significance of the manufacturing process in defining surface roughness and the key parameters affecting machining performance.

Influence of surface finishing and printing layer orientation on surface roughness and flexural strength of stereolithography-manufactured dental zirconia

Y. Lu et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effect of surface finishing and printing layer orientation on the surface roughness and flexural strength of 3D-printed yttria-stabilized zirconia. The results showed that orienting the printed layers parallel to the tensile side improved the mechanical performance. Additionally, polishing significantly improved the flexural strength, and it is necessary to reduce surface roughness and large pores for optimal performance.
